Dollhouses
on a Shoestring
The purpose of this page is not to
undermine serious dollhouse collecting.
It is meant to bring pleasure to everyone who has a limited budget and a
lot of creativity .

Several years ago my
son bought me my first dollhouse (the Dura-Craft farmhouse) as a Christmas present. That was enough
to get the adrenaline flowing. I am now addicted. I found I could
not always afford to furnish the rooms with some of the things I would have
liked. Creativity and ingenuity had to be used to finish the project, but it was
very pleasurable.
A short time later I met a friend who, I found, also did dollhouses.
I lived in North Carolina, she lived in
Maryland. Many telephone conversations had miniatures as the topic. She now resides with my family and
dollhousing is one of our "fun" activities.
We haunt Dollar Stores, scavenge hunt everywhere, and allow
the creative juices to flow unchecked. We have found between us we can
usually see things happening all the time.
What we will
be sharing now are things we have done recently. Many of our past
endeavors have found other homes. We have given some to family members and
donated some to charities.
We hope we can inspire you to be creative while "shoestringing"
it.
