On May 2 & 3, 1998, The Austin Radio Control Association sponsored the 10th Annual Central Texas Jet Rally at Lester Field in Austin, Texas. Thirty-two pilots registered their ducted fan and turbine aircraft to participate in the rally. Friday night, pilots and crew were treated to a free fajita cook out. Saturday's lunch was included in the registeration fee and a steak dinner was offered on Saturday night. The spectator participation was a tremendous success. The parking lots were filled with cars, trucks, trailers and recreational vehicles. A raffle, trophies and door prizes were all part of the successful jet rally. The crowds admired the speed-demon flying of the accomplished pilots. The realistic sounds of the turbine jet engines were really impressive. It was hard to believe that these were radio control models only. A radar speed recording unit was set up to clock the jets as they zipped by. The pilots and the volunteers of the Austin Radio Control Association deserve much praise and appreciation for having put on another spectacular Central Texas Jet Rally.
