Taos Pueblo

The Taos Pueblo is one of several Pueblo Indian tribes in New Mexico.  Like most, the residents have learned to tolerate - even profit from - tourists.  (Some tribes, however, do not allow visitors.)  Photographers must pay a fee for each camera carried onto the reservation, but photos of Pueblo residents are forbidden without the subject's permission.  Continuing in tribal tradition, electricity and running water are absent from the homes.  To anyone planning to visit Northern New Mexico, we highly recommend a visit to this pueblo.


  The Pueblo's San Geronimo Church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  This is the front of the adobe building with its bell towers and balcony, and the upper portion of the entrance gate.

Yes, this type of photo has been done before, but it's a classic - not a cliche - don't you think?  In any case, the adobe texture fascinated us...


The Cross on the Hill

There are 2 roads to travel from Santa Fe to Taos.  The newer highway is wider and faster.  The older, slower road goes over the mountains -- and is known as "The High Road to Taos."  Like all good explorers, we travelled the High Road.  Along the way, we saw this cross.  Except for the dirt road, there was no sign of habitation...
