An APSU track athlete strikes the national scene again!!! After senior Luke Finley became the first APSU XC athlete to ever be named Academic-All American (2nd Team At-Large Fall Sports...but I did pay off the selection committee...) in April, graduate student Emily Anthony becomes the first APSU track athlete to ever be named Academic-All American, as she makes the 3rd Team for At-Large Spring Sports. Try to find another OVC program with two Academic All-Americans. In fact, find more than a handful of Div. I schools in the nation with a pair from the same program....Even though I do give credit to TTU's Jenny Adams for making the 2nd Team. OVC representin'. For Em, way to go baby!!! We are gonna miss you!!!
Big Congratulations go out to Kenya Avant who in June became the first ever recipient of the prestigious Wilma Rudolph Track Scholarship, to be awarded here annually at Austin Peay. Local NFL star Harry Galbreath was on hand at the ceremony as the keynote speaker to honor Kenya's achievement. (For those who don't know, the former Olympic legend Rudolph hailed from here in Clarksville, TN).
The OVC Championships are in the book...and even though it rained on us all day Saturday, we had a very competitive meet with some superb efforts put forth! We enjoyed hosting the meet, but are somewhat relieved it is over. Now that the champions have been crowned, be sure to check out the Unofficial Homepage of the 1998 OVC Outdoor Championships right here on our homepage. Complete standings and results are posted, with pictures being added often.
Check out my newest addition to the page, the
OVC links and
information center. If you want to see if this is the best homepage in
the OVC, you can check out everybody else's...plus see what's going around
around the conference!
How's this for news? The APSU Lady Governors Track team broke FIFTEEN school records in 1998 (5 indoor marks, 10 outdoor marks). And available for the first time is the all-time list of school records, both indoors and outdoors! Check out these links to visit the updated APSU Track and Field Record Boards:
The postseason banquet was held on May 4th, and we all had a nice time. Especially Jay, who had about 15 pieces of chicken. Coach gave out the 97'-98' awards , and they went a little something like this:
