1998 Women's Cross Country

Ann-Marie Browne

Sophomore    -    Antigua

As an athlete:

Ann-Marie is the most versatile distance/middle distance runner on the team. Having competed in every distance from 400 up to the half-marathon, Ann-Marie carries the title as "Leading Lady" as we embark on the XC season.  At Antigua's Christ the King High, Ann-Marie was a well-balanced athlete. She was named Sport Women of the Year 5 times, and  she achieved Vitrix Ludurom status for four years. She was named her team's Most Outstanding Athlete from '91 to '96, the years in which Christ the King won the Interschool Championship. She was also named Student Athlete of the Year in '94. Ann-Marie was the second female finisher at the OECS half-marathon in '94, and was named to the Carifta Team in '93 where she placed 4th in the 1500 meters. She was also one heck of a basketball player, where she was MVP of her team. Thankfully, she has stuck with track...

Here at APSU, Ann-Marie has blossomed into our best XC runner and a very talented middle distance runner on the track. She's hoping to go sub-19 for 5k this fall, and to provide leadership for a young XC team. On the track, Ann-Marie came on very strong around the OVC Indoors, and kept it going the rest of the year finishing with a 4:52 in the 1500 and a 2:16 in the 800, making the finals of both events in the OVC Outdoors. She can also throw in a solid leg on the 4x400 any time she is asked. Ann-Marie has very achievable goals in '98 of going 4:45 in the 1500 and 2:14 in the 800, along with winning her first individual OVC medal. As far as team goals? At least a 3rd place finish in Richmond  for OVC Outdoors next May. Hey, for a team of less than 20 that would be phenomenal.

More Personally...

Ann-Marie (born May 1, 1977) is a Pre-Physical Therapy major, who would like to be a physiotherapist eventually. In her spare time, she loves singing and dancing. Ann misses the beaches of the island, but still enjoys listening to music from "home", and having a ball. She still hoops it up when she gets the chance. She also has interests in reading (romance novels included), and acting. Ann-Marie eventually wants to settle down and have her own family. Whether in Antigua or in the States, I'm not sure.

Ann-Marie, the fighter: "For every set back...I will come back."
