Isaac ("Ike") Garrett
The typical occupation listed for Blacks living in Laurens Township at the time of the 1870 census is "laborer;" however, Ike Garrett is listed as a "farmer" and his wife is listed as a "housekeeper." The children listed in the household at that time were: Dicey, Wick, Jefferson, and Corra (I believe the reference to Corra was to Early whose middle initial was "C." Ike Garrett died at the age of 76 on June 8, 1911; he and his wife (Hannah) are buried side-by-side at New Grove Baptist Church, in Laurens County.

In addition to Wick (my great-grandfather), Ike Garrett's other children were:
Early (who married Crockett Beasley)
Lela (who married a Beeks)
Hattie (who married a Milan)
Dicey (who married a Johnson and then an Irby)
Jefferson
Tildy (who married an Austin and then a Sexton)
Mary
Guy (who left South Carolina and was never heard from again)
Ike's wife was the daughter of Jim and Lucy Simpson. Lucy Simpson died on December 17, 1914; she lived with her grandson, Wick Garrett, at the end of her life, and is buried near him in the cemetery at Bethel Hall Baptist Church, in Hickory Tavern.
The descendants of Dicey Garrett Irby and Early Garrett Beasley still join their Garrett cousins for family reunions in Laurens County.
Can you help to identify descendants of Ike Garrett's other children (particularly, Guy Garrett who left home and was never heard from again)?
