Dog's Eye View
hosted by
Miss Liberty, M.E.

(Mutt Extraordinaire)

People always ask if Liberty is a pen name in honor of free speech. Nope, it's my real name and I earned it. No bars could hold this teeny Houdini.

That's what they called me back at the shelter. I scared the stuffing out of more than one attendant who found me cruising the aisles in the wee hours. Hey, I just wanted to be where the action was. That nursery stuff was boring. I finally convinced one of the volunteers that I was going home with her and it's been quite the life ever since.

I'll be adding my favorite episodes, but first I'd like to share "A Dog's Plea" - author unknown. (I recently discovered another version with author credit, see
A Faithful Dog.)

Treat me kindly my beloved friend. No heart in the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick. Though I should lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me learn.

Speak to me often. Your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.

Please take me inside when it is cold and wet. I am a domesticated animal no longer accustomed to bitter elements. I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water. I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food that I may stay well to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side and stay ready and willing to protect you with my life.

And my friend, when I am very old and I no longer enjoy good health, hearing and sight, do not make heroic efforts to keep me going. I am not having any fun. Please see that my trusting life is taken gently. I shall leave this earth knowing with the last breath I draw that my fate was always safest in your hands.

Oh boy, that always gets the old secretary choked up. And it always gets me an extra cookie! By cookie, I mean treat. You do know sweets, especially chocolate, are great big no-nos for pets I hope.

You would not believe what else is bad for your best friend. A few years back the big sleep was under discussion because nothing seemed to be working to stop my itching. Talk about your bad hair days - I had myself scratched and chewed almost bald. The skin is an organ, do enough damage, it's lights out. Lucky for me, a friend told us about a dog she saw on a TV show about food allergies. Bingo, that was it. I'll tell you some more soon, stay tuned.

The secretary's Site Index has links to my pages too. I even fill in for her sometimes. Go see Happy 4th from Miss Liberty, it's got a recipe for a Kitty Litter Cake she made for Buster's Party and that's got a link to my Photo Gallery. Don't try to figure it out, just go there.

In case the animations aren't working, which is often, this sign reads Dogs Rule on one side and Cats Drool on the other. Wouldn't want it to get stuck on the Cats Drool and offend anyone. I even gave cats their very own section.

Don't go away yet, I'd appreciate if you'd leave your mark in my guestbook. I had a heck of a time getting one to work and as you can see the dumb thing still doesn't look right ...
