This will be my 13th Thanksgiving. Nothin' unlucky about that - I have lots to be thankful for, more than I ever imagined. Oddly enuf I got into the publishing biz thanks to an editor who was afraid of dogs. She gave me a column after I promised to remind everyone to mind the leash law. I had fun with the "lite side" and also covered the serious stuff - spay/neuter, animal rights and a few issues peculiar to life in the desert.
Turned out to be a popular feature, advertisers even paid premium prices to be on my page - made me feel very pretty darn special. Now that I have my space here, I'm making new friends every day and looking forward to doing my bit again.
I hope you'll check in on me every now and then to see what's new. The secretary and I have BIG plans. And we always want to hear your ideas too.
Hey - that last part sorta rhymed - this would be the perfect place to show off the poem my Auntie Rexanne wrote just for me.
This Dog's Life
On tender paws, I type 'til dawn
It's the only time she'll let me on!
I've got a web site about just me
And other dogs and where we pee.
The Whiz Exchange is my latest rage
And I'm getting awards to grace my page!
Queen Can-ivore is my adopted Mom
She loads the floppies and the C/D ROM
So I can write about what I know
Like spay and neuter and eating snow.
I love e-mail and knowing you care
Drop me a line, let me know you're there!
I'll write ya back, let you know what's shaking
Like where we're living and what Mom's been baking.
So, now I'm off to write more pages
It's a lot of work for minimal wages!
But kibble and snuggles are very nice
And a bowl of water with a lemon slice. :-)
While I'm in a show-off mood ...
I'll add more to this page as I find more artwork - if you know of any pawrticularly good places to "shop" let me know. And on the subject of shopping ... I hear some of you organized types are already thinking about Christmas! Here's a tip if you're stumped about the "impossibles" on your list. They'll think you're the cat's pajamas if you tag that gift for Cuddles or Ruff.
If you're thinking the perfect gift would be a live animal, please consider this.
The holidays are not the time for introducing new responsibilities. Once the novelty wears off the toys and life is back to normal ... that's the time to add a new family member. Critters young and old need attention and care to get with the program.
Circumstances vary - this time of year might be perfect for someone who lives alone. However, choice is up to the individual ... beauty in the eye of the beholder (on both sides) and all that love at first sight stuff. You might offer to cover adoption/vet fees.
Or, how 'bout making a donation to a shelter in someone's name. Give yourself a feel-good gift by volunteering a little time too.
Now, what about a twist on a Dear Abby Letter? "I would really appreciate one of my grandkids taking me out for a movie or an ice cream cone."
Why not offer to walk a dog ... take Tweetie/Sweetie for a clip/foo-foo (or do it yourself).
Price is not the object here - I've seen some pretty spiffy warmies made out of sock tops and sweater sleeves. Roll the cuff like a turtle neck, cut out leg holes - get as fancy as you want about hems and trim.
My fave winter fashion is a granny square "dress" - don't tell anybody - you know who made it - bustle ruffles and all. Gauge the squares to neck-fit and add on from there. Use Velcro to fasten the side flaps.
Tell me your ideas!
