  • FEBRUARY 27, 1999 (Saturday, 5:00PM):
    Concert featuring three highly-regarded operatic soloists from Lithuania - Virgilijus Noreika, Vladimiras Prudnikovas and Eduardas Kaniava. Dinner begins at 5:00PM, followed by program at 7:00PM.   • MARCH 6, 1999 (Saturday, 7:30PM):
    LAC/Manhattan Chapter's Lithuanian Independence Day Celebration. Guest speaker Petras Sandanavicius. Program will be followed by dinner and music by the Stasys Janusas Band. The celebration will take place at Our Lady of Vilnius Church (Ausros Vartu Parapija), 570 Broome Street (near Varick Street), New York, New York.

     
  • MARCH 7, 1999 (Sunday, 12:30PM):
    "Kaziuko Muge" - Lithuanian Folk Arts and Crafts Show, organized by the New York Chapter of the Lithuanian Scouting Association. Lithuanian foods will be available during the craft show (Lithuanian Cultural Center).

     
  • MARCH 21, 1999 (Sunday, 12:30PM):
    Annual meeting of the Brooklyn/Queens Chapter of the LAC. Lithuanian foods will be served beginning at 12:30PM. The annual meeting of the LAC Brooklyn/Queens Chapter will begin at 3:00PM (Lithuanian Cultural Center).

     
  • MARCH 28, 1999 (Sunday, 12:00PM):
    A presentation of a new Lithuanian language edition of the Holy Bible will take place in the Church of the Annunciation school building (Apreiskimo Parapijos mokykla). The presentation will begin following the 11:00AM mass (in Lithuanian). Lunch will be served. Organized by Lithuanian Catholic Religious Aid, Inc. (Lietuviu Kataliku Religine Salpa). The entrance to the church school building is at the corner of North 5th Street and Havemeyer Street (near Metropolitan Avenue) in Brooklyn.

     
  • APRIL 10, 1999 (Saturday, 7:30PM):
    An evening of music and dancing featuring the very best Lithuanian cabaret singers - Onute Valiukeviciute and Aldona Stasiuleviciute.   • APRIL 18, 1999 (Sunday, 12:30PM):
    Performance by the "Kankles" Ensemble, from Vilnius, Lithuania. They are the best known performers of Lithuanian folk music today, using a variety of traditional Lithuanian instruments. A lunch featuring Lithuanian food prepared by the Lithuanian Athletic Club begins at 12:30PM, followed by the "Kankles" performance at 3:00. Organized by the LAC Brooklyn/Queens Chapter (Lithuanian Cultural Center).

     
  • APRIL 24, 1999 (Saturday, 7:30PM):
    Performance by violin virtuoso Raimundas Katilius and pianist Golda Vainberg-Tatz (For more information about the performance by Katilius and Vainberg-Tatz, click here.) This performance is sponsored by the Consulate General of Lithuania and the Lithuanian-American Community Manhattan Chapter.   • APRIL 25, 1999 (Sunday, 12:30PM):
    A "Kavine" (Cafe) will be prepared by the teachers and parents of the New York Maironis Lithuanian School. Lithuanian foods and refreshments will be served following the 11:00AM mass, and there will be a performance by students of the Maironis Lithuanian school (Church of the Annunciation school building - Apreiskimo Parapijos mokykla.   • MAY 8, 1999 (Saturday, 9:30AM):
    Annual meeting of the Lithuanian National Foundation (Lietuviu Tautos Fondas). Registration is at 9:30AM; the meeting will start at 10:00AM (the meeting will be preceded by a Mass offered in the Franciscan Chapel at 9:00 AM). Guest speakers include U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. (retired) Donatas Skucas (Chairman of the LAC Board of Directors), who will speak about the relationship between Lithuanians abroad and the Lithuanian government. Mr. Antanas Dundzila will speak about the teaching of World War II and post-World War II history in Lithuania's schools, especially Lithuania's resistance to Soviet occupation (Lithuanian Cultural Center).

     
  • MAY 22, 1999 (Saturday, 6:00PM):
    A dinner hosted by the Lithuanian Press Club will feature humorist Vladas Vijeikis. Cocktails will be served at 6:00PM, dinner will begin at 7:00PM. Admission is $25 (Lithuanian Cultural Center).

     
  • MAY 31, 1999 (Monday - Memorial Day, 1:00PM):
    Annual Spring Picnic hosted by the Long Island Chapter of the LAC. The picnic will be held in Kings Point Park (Area 24, entrance on Steamboat Road) near Kings Point, Nassau County, Long Island. Please note that everyone attending the picnic should bring their own food and drinks (no food or drinks will be sold on location).     A tribute to the victims of the Soviet deportation of thousands of Lithuanians from their homeland to the gulags of Siberia. The program will begin at 12:00 noon, following a commemorative Mass at 11:00AM at the Church of the Annunciation (Apreiskimo Parapija). Coffee and dessert will be provided.     A program at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, New York, will commemorate the historic transatlantic flight of Steponas Darius and Stasys Girenas in July 1933.     The Anthology Film Archives will present "Video Art in Lithuania, 1988-1996", featuring the works of contemporary Lithuanian video artists. Theater admission is $8 ($5 for students and seniors, $1 for children age 12 and under).   • AUGUST 29, 1999 (Sunday, 12:30PM):
    The theater company "Aukuras" from Hamilton (Canada) will be joined by actors from the Siauliai (Lithuania) theater company to present a play by Stasys Laucius - "Ponios Zydrienes Bendrabutis" ("Mrs. Zydriene's Hostel"). The play begins at 2:30PM - admission is $15 for adults, and is free of charge for persons who are 18 years old and under. Food and refreshments will be served beginning at 12:30PM, and will be available before and after the play.     The New York Maironis Lithuanian School will host its registration for children's and adult classes for the 1999/2000 school year. Adult students who wish to learn the Lithuanian language are invited to attend an introductory lesson. Parents are invited to attend a discussion of the Maironis School's plans for the upcoming year (regular classes for children begin the following Saturday, September 25). Refreshments will be served.     A Thanksgiving Luncheon will be hosted by the Apreiskimo Parapija (Church of the Annunciation) Parish Council. The luncheon will begin at 12:00 noon (following 11:00AM Mass), and will include several main courses, refreshments, and desserts. A tribute will also be given to Rev. Palubinskas for his many years of service to the Apreiskimo Parapija.   • DECEMBER 11, 1999 (Saturday, 5:00PM):
    The Lithuanian Athletic Club's annual Christmas Party will begin at 5:00PM, following the finals of the LAK's developmental basketball league (the finals begin at 3:00PM). There is NO admission fee to the Christmas Party. Santa will bring gifts to the children. A disco will be held after the Christmas party at about 8PM. Admission to the disco evening is only $3.   • DECEMBER 19, 1999 (Sunday, 3:00PM):
    The New York Maironis Lithuanian School invites you to celebrate the holiday season by attending their Christmas Party. Students of the school will sing and perform a Christmas play, followed by a light meal and refreshments. Admission is by donation.     The Millenium New Year's Eve Party will be hosted by the Lithuanian Athletic Club. This once-in-a-lifetime event will feature dancing to the music of a live band, dinner, and refreshments. Mr. Barkauskas will perform works by Bach, Guillou, Juzeliunas, Vierne, and Widor. This event is presented by the Consulate General of Lithuania and by the Lithuanian-American Community of New York.     Highly regarded operatic soloists Vladimiras Prudnikovas and Judita Leitaite (accompanied by pianist Nijole Ralyte) will perform a concert hosted by the Lithuanian-American Community (New York District). There will also be dancing to recorded music following the concert. Refreshments will be served. Admission to the concert is $15, and is free of charge to those under 18 years of age (Lithuanian Cultural Center).

     
  • APRIL 25, 2000 (Tuesday, 7:00PM):
    The Foreign Minister of Lithuania, Algirdas Saudargas, will present a speech and answer questions pertaining to Lithuania's foreign affairs. This event will be hosted by the Consulate General of Lithuania and the New York District of the Lithuanian-American Community. Refreshments will be served. Admission is free of charge (Lithuanian Cultural Center).

     
  • APRIL 25, 2000 (Tuesday, 8:00PM):
    Representatives of the Lithuanian World Youth Association (LWYA) invite you to attend a meeting to discuss the Tenth World Lithuanian Youth Congress, which will take place in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia, beginning December 22, 2000. The Youth Congress will feature a wide range of activities that will be of interest to Lithuanians of all ages, and the LWYA representatives will discuss the special Australian travel and tour package options that are available.     Annual meeting of the Brooklyn/Queens Chapter of the LAC. The meeting will include a summary of the Brooklyn/Queens Chapter's activities during the past year, election of board members, and plans for the future. Mr. Cepinskis will be accompanied by pianist Guoda Gedvilaite.     The Lithuanian Women's Federation will host a musical program titled "When All is Lost, Love Remains". The performers will include Viginija Chohanskyte (actress with the Kaunas Academy of Drama), Rita Preiksaite (mezzo-soprano soloist with the Kaunas Musical Theater) and pianist Melitina Diamandidi-Kupriene.     A dinner and tribute in honor of Romas Kezys will be presented by the LAC in recognition of Mr. Kezys' fifty years of distinguished service to the Lithuanian-American community of New York, and his thirty five years as host of the "Laisves Ziburys" weekly radio program. The evening will feature exhibits depicting the history of the "Laisves Ziburys" radio program, tributes from guest speakers, and a performance by pianist Virginijus Barkauskas. Students of the school will sing and perform a Christmas play and we fully expect that Santa Claus will pay a visit to the students. The celebration will begin at 11:00AM (following 10:00AM Lithuanian Mass), and will include several main courses, refreshments, and dessert.   • DECEMBER 24, 2004 (Friday, 10:00PM):
    Lithuanian Christmas Eve Mass (Berneliu Misios) be presented at the Apreiskimo parapija (Church of the Annunciation). Carol singing by the choir will begin at 9:30PM, followed by Mass at 10:00PM. Parents are asked to dress their children in the Lithuanian national costume, or their Sunday Best (no jeans, please!) and bring them to the church vestibule by 9:45PM to take part in a children's procession. Refreshments will be served at the Church of the Annunciation school building following the Mass.   • FEBRUARY 13, 2005 (Sunday, 10:00AM):
    A Lithuanian Independence Day Commemorative Mass will be held at the Church of the Annunciation - Apreiskimo Parapija. After Mass, there will be a luncheon in the Apreiskimo Parapija parish hall featuring traditional Lithuanian foods and refreshments. (Entrance at the corner of North 5th Street and Havemeyer Street - near Metropolitan Avenue - in Brooklyn, NY).

     
  • FEBRUARY 13, 2005 (Sunday, 2:00 PM):
    A celebration of Lithuanian Independence Day will be presented by the Lithuanian National Foundation, Lithuanian-American Community (New York District), and the Lithuanian American Council (New York District). The guest speaker for this event will be Lithuania's Ambassador to the United States, Vygaudas Usackas. Entertainment will be provided by the students of the Maironis Lithuanian School and soloist Angele Kiausaite, accompanied by Rimgaudas Pranckevicius. Admission is $10 for adults (no admission fee for children). Refreshments will be served. (Church of the Transfiguration, 64-14 Clinton Avenue, Maspeth, New York).

     
  • MARCH 6, 2005 (Sunday, 11:30AM):
    A Lithuanian Folk Arts and Crafts Show ("Kaziuko Muge") will be hosted by the New York Chapter of the Lithuanian Scouting Association. Lithuanian foods and refreshments will be available during the craft show. Admission to this event is free. (Church of the Transfiguration Parish Hall, 64-14 Clinton Avenue, Maspeth, New York).
