We want to take this opportunity to thank all of you who helped us out through a very difficult time in our lives.
Thank You to the staff at Mt Sinai Medical Center in NYC who have made Conor's life possible:
My OB ~ Laurie Goldstein
The Neonatologists ~ Drs. Green, Holtzman & Lasker
Neonatology Fellows ~ Dr. Liz Carlin & Dr. Beth Benjamin
The Medical Residents ~ Especially Dr. Adam Aponte & Dr. Josephine Kuo
Respiratory Specialists ~ Ian & Betina
The Fabulous & Caring Nursing Staff ~ Especially Shirley Coward, Anne Riordan, Kathy Chee, Sam Hamilton, Joanne Rosenberg, Joanne, Seung Ja Shin, Katherine Reilly and Victoria Ekwey.
We are so very grateful to our families who lent us support in so many ways:
Especially for my sister, Mary Kravitz, who literally kept our world running and in good order. She shopped, cooked and cleaned for us. She ran our errands, donated her blood and drove 1-1/2 hours each way to visit us every week. She did all this while taking care of her own 3 kids as well.
To my brother, Bert Malerba, who drove 4 hours to visit us and donate his blood for Conor's transfusions.
To my brother, Matt Malerba, who painted, fixed and moved us into our new apartment when Conor was only 4 weeks old and still in the NICU.
To my cousin, Leah Goldstein Gray, who gave us a place to stay so we could be near the hospital during the Blizzard of '96. Leah also kept an emergency supply of my breastmilk in her freezer in case I couldn't get it to the NICU in time for one of Conor's feedings.
Our friends were so very good to us:
Bonni & Mark Kingsley, who regularly gave us their apartment so we didn't have to make the 1-1/2 hour trip home on the worst of nights.
Chris & Sue Fiori, who drove 3 hours on Christmas Eve to surprise us with a basket of much needed and appreciated goodies ~ and then turned around and drove back home to be with their own families.
Laurie Pane Foster, the wife of a college friend -- who'd only met us once, but sent us Conor's very specially made preemie outfits when he was less than 2 pounds. We especially love the Christmas clothes!
Michele Pfeiffenberg Cuthbertson, who visited us and lent us her apartment as well.
To Kevin Saer & Amy Wright, Liane May & Bonni & Mark who visited us regularly and took us out to eat during the dinner time shift changes.
To everyone else who visited and helped us including Eileen & Brian Podolec, Donna LoTurco, Noelle Alix, Laura & Terri Ford, and Marian & David Fontana
To our employers:
Who were caring and flexible with our schedules so we could be with Conor whenever he needed us or we needed him:
Frankfurt, Garbus, Klein & Selz
Wathne Ltd.
Our deepest appreciation to all the medical specialists & therapists who have been such a large part of Conor's life and have helped Conor get through these last few years:
Especially our pediatrician, Dr. Ramone Murphy, without whose guidance and support we would have been lost, and to his associates and staff.
Conor's Physical Therapist, Lori Garone; Speech Therapist, Gerri O'Brien; Occupational Therapist, Angela Andriano; and Behavioral Therapist, Julianna Lachenmeyer; all of whom have made Conor's daily life a little easier and a lot more productive.
To Conor's physiatrist, naturopath, urologist, gastroenterologists, pulmonologist, otolaryngologist, developmental pediatrician, and all the other specialists too numerous to mention.
To Our Fellow NICU Families who supported each other through all the ups and downs of the NICU rollercoaster ride:
Especially to Martha Rodiguez and her angel son Christopher Rosa (b. 8/25/95 - d. 2/23/96) and Claire Zion and her beautiful son Quinn Malloy.
To Our Small Wonder ~ Conor Michael Williams
He taught us about the meaning of strength, courage and determination. He's made us see what's really important in life. He's brought us tears, laughter and pure joy from the moment of his conception. He really is a wonder.
