One of the first interviews Nolan gave about Chris
Soap Opera Magazine - June 24, 1997
"Chris is as sharp with his wit as he is with his scalpel," quips North. "Many would classify him as a real jerk, but that might be too easy. My feeling is that a person who's considered a jerk by others doesn't consider himself a jerk. Chris is misunderstood. He really does have a moral code, but he just doesn't know how to tap into it."
What is the most romantic evening you've ever spent?
"On my ex-girlfriend's birthday, I surprised her with a watch that she'd been eyeing for awhile. Then we went to dinner and a movie. After that, we drove up the coast and watched the sun go down. It was perfect weather - one of those days when the temperature and the humidity is just right and you kind of look to the sky and say, 'Thank you for my life.'" - Soaps in Depth, February 24, 1998
What well-publicized case really captured your interest?
"Monica Lewinsky and President Clinton. It's a shame that the media is so involved. If JFK was president today, he'd be impeached by the media's standards. God knows what other presidents have done. It doesn't matter to me as long as they do the job they were hired to do. There are bigger issues that need to be addressed in this country. Instead we're worried about who the president's sleeping with. Who didn't Kennedy sleep with?" - Soaps in Depth, April 28, 1998
If you could've lived in any historical period, when would it have been?
"The '50s. Those were the good old days. In music, Elvis was king, and you had Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Television and movies were more wholesome. Comedians like Sid Caesar and Steve Allen were at their height. It seemed like such a happy time. People were back from the war and the economy was booming. You've seen HAPPY DAYS!" - SID, March 17, 1998
Who has had the greatest influence on your life?
"My brother, Nelson. He's seven years older than I am, but we have always been very close. He's the one who told me to pursue my dreams at any cost, because at least then you'll never have any regrets. My brother and I have a great bond." - SID, May 19, 1998

What's the dumbest thing you've ever done that you laugh about now?
"In college, I dislocated my shoulder lifting weights, and it popped right out of the joint. I went up to a wall and tried to pop it back in like Mel Gibson did in Lethal Weapon. I passed out unconscious because it hurt so bad. I slammed it against a wall and just saw black! That's where life imitated art and it didn't work." - SID, June 30, 1998
What drives Chris to do the miserable things he does?
"It's greed. Pure and simple greed. He's obviously talented, and yet he goes to these extraordinary and dangerous lengths to get what he wants. A lot of people have asked me why he does these things . . . I mean, he's a doctor and it would seem like he has a lot going for him.
There's something in his background which will explain his motivation for acting this way. We know he has money troubles; he didn't grow up with money. From what I can gather, he probably had a taste if money, then it was taken away and now he wants it back. It's not like he's Rex Stanton. He's not psychotic . . . he just loves himself more than anybody else. He goes about his own business and he thinks he doesn't need anyone.
I don't think he's a mean person, because as a doctor he has taken an oath to take care of people and their health. He's very skilled and he's also very insecure.
But he's not past the point of redemption. Chris is the kind of character that you love to hate. He does have some redeeming qualities. He has a good sense of humor, and every once in a while he shows his good side . . . like when he saved a young child. You see in his eyes that he regrets some of the things he's done.
A lot of people ask me, 'Did he want Matt killed?' Well, no. He doesn't want to kill him, he just wants him out of the way. If he had wanted him dead, he wouldn't have sent him that warning to be smart and get out of town. He has a heart - he just doesn't use it too often. Chris believes his own lies, so he can justify any action he takes. With what happened with Matt, Chris really believes that if he had just listened to him and moved out of town, he'd be fine. The way Chris sees it, whatever happens is all Matt's fault.
As for romance, I have no idea. I know that the one person Chris has feelings for is Eve, even though she's involved with someone right now." - Soaps Opera Update, May 26, 1998
Mom's the Word:
"I called my mom when I got this job and said, 'Now I can quit the restaurant.' And she said, 'Can't you work there on weekends?' Can you imagine? 'Aren't you Dr. Ramsey?' 'Yes. Would you like more zucchini bread with dinner?'"
The Eye(brow)s Have It:
"I do not have trademark eyebrows (which wiggle furiously). They just have a life of their own."
Food Dudes:
"Rib Hillis (ex-Jake) has become the Martha Stewart of PORT CHARLES. He has these dinner parties at his house in the hills. We'll grill up some steaks and chicken and just hang out."
Hall of Famer:
"There's an unfair stigma that daytime actors can't act. Thank God for Debbi Morgan (Ellen). She was brilliant in Eve's Bayou. Debbi doesn't know this, but I watch her work. She's an inspiration, and should be to every actor starting out."
Chris's Love Life:
"So far, everyone who's slept with Chris has moved. Nicole left town. Remember the flight attendant? Buh-bye. Thank goodness, Lisa Ann Hadley (Julie) and Julie Pinson (Eve) didn't jump in the sack with me, or they'd be looking for work."
Playing A TV Doctor:
"God forbid some guy should have a heart attack and someone recognizes me and says, 'He's a doctor!' That man would surely die."
Daytime Duties:
"My first week on the job, I was asked to get Tony Geary's (Luke, GENERAL HOSPITAL) autograph for a friend. Yeah, I'm going to walk over to Tony Geary and say, 'Hi. I'm nobody. Nobody North. Can you sign this for some person I don't even know? You legend, you.'" - Soap Opera Digest, April 21, 1998
