WOMEN IN LAW ENFORCEMENT

Where women in blue meet

My name is Linda Swears and I am a Sergeant with the Fitchburg (MA) Police Department. I am very interested in communicating with other Women in Law Enforcement. I believe we have much to share, and can offer each other support in a demanding field. This "web site" stuff is new to me, so hang in there as I learn how to improve my page! Thanks, and be safe my sisters' in blue.

Organization Description: A gathering place for women in Law Enforcement.

A forum:
to meet others with similar experiences;
to vent;
to share.

HOW DO WE THANK THEM?
When we see a badge, what do we see?
A sigh of relief, or a reason to flee?
My neighbor is thoughtless! The people declare;
And they step into the night when no one would
dare.
So they judge and complain, saying the battle we
lose.
But who will come forward and step in their
shoes?
Then some see the courage and some see the
pride.
But do they all see the heart; or the hurting
inside?
And we see them in action, the guts...
the compassion;
Dispelling the fears, a smile, a kind word...
drying the tears.
And though some dreams fade and lives
sometimes shattered, for a moment and a
lifetime, their presence, it mattered.
So how do we thank them, the brave and
the true?
While sometimes sufficient, mere words will
not due.

The policeman stood and faced his god,
which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I really ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge,
Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays.
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
because the streets are so tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked alot of overtime,
when the bills got too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
though at times I shook with fear.
And sometime lord forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
among these people here.
They never wanted me around,
except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here lord,
it need not be grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't...I'll understand.

There was silence around the throne,
where saints had often trod,
as the policeman waited quietly,
for the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now policeman,
you've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on heavens streets.
You've done your time in hell.

If only I could embrace the gift of a second chance, to be more compassionate, less selfish, and far less convinced that I was always right; a leader I would truly be......

The Reward (a poem for us)

I try not to give too much
to a job which requires my all;
I need something left for my family
after handling all my calls.

Time spent at home must be made the most of;
home-cooked dinners shared together,
time set aside for making love.

Yet I cannot help but give one hundred percent
to people in need, wherever I am sent.
Just as I would want any cop to be
when helping someone who is important to me.

So I don't hold back, I do my best on every tour.
When I pin on my shield, it's what I'm there for.
Though it often menas a big ballgame I'm missing;
my husband waits alone, or a bruised knee I'm not kissing,
I'm always paid off with the biggest reward:
my kids think I'm the best cop in the world!
