Orvel Morgan Allen & Joseph Smith Wing

I just recently heard from yet another descendant of Joseph Smith Wing;
Allen Joseph Wing, the great grandson of Joseph Smith Wing and Mary Josephine
Allen. What follows are two histories and a descendant chart of the families
of Orvel Morgan Wing and Joseph Smith Wing. Josephine Wing, granddaughter
of Joseph Smith Wing wrote the two histories that you will read here. All
of the information that you will read here was kindly contributed by Allen
Joseph Wing. Thank you very much Allen.

History of Orvel Morgan Allen as found in the genealogy book of Joseph Marion Wing.
Orvel Morgan Allen was a very religious man. His parents dis-inherited him when he joined the Mormons about 1833. His (1) wife Jane Wilson was daughter of James (?) Wilson of North Carolina. They married 23 Feb 1825 and had 8 children.
1. Eliza Ann Allen (b. 15 Nov 1826, Pike Co, MO; d. 30 Oct 1832—about 6 years old.
2. Elizabeth Catherine Allen (b. 22 Sept 1828, Pike Co MO; d. 11 Dec 1911) M1 Cornelius Latt, M2 G. W. Thorpe
3. Mary Jane Allen (b. 17 Apr 1830, Pike Co MO; d. 30 Oct 1832)---about 2 ½ years old.
4. Sarah Lucinda Allen (b. 4 June 1834, Pike Co MO; d. 1 July 1839) –about 5 years old.
5. Antoinette M Allen (b. 20 May 1839, Lincoln Co MO; d. unknown) M1 Joshua Hall, M2 J.B. Francis.
6. Alma Hyrum Allen (b. 11 July 1841, Nauvoo Hancock Co, IL d. dd/mm 1937) M1 an Indian maid had 2 sons.
7. James Chandler Allen (b. 18 Jan 1844, Madison Island Hancock Co IL d. 3 Apr 1938 M1 Lucy Prisby, M2 La Veda Rogers
8. Laura Josephine Allen (b 3 Apr 1846, Nauvoo Handcock Co, IL d. 22 Jan 1925 M1 Myron Abbott, M2 M. D. Felts.
Jane Wilson “fell” for an Englishman and left O. M Allen. The Englishman was a fugitive from justice named Mr ?? Hurley. The English law found him, convicted him and executed him. Jane had a son by Hurley tho’ she never married him-son’s name was John Oscar Hurley (b. 24 Aug 1851 in Pottawatamie Co, Iowa. He died 1937, M 2x. His 1st wife was Lucy Prisby. She was also the first wife of James C Allen above. Lucy left James C Allen and run off with John O Hurley.
After Hurley was executed Jane tried to come back to O. M. Allen but he wouldn’t take her then-so she joined her daughter in polygamy with Joshua Hall and gave her Hurley baby the name of Hall and he used that “Hall” name all his life – and his children are called “Hall” today. John O. Hurley (or Hall) M2 Cetty Burke and had 1 son, Oscar “Hall”. O. M. Allen M2 Susannah Ward- they had 1 girl (your {Joseph Marion Wing’s} grandma & my {Allen Joseph Wing’s} Great Grandmother) Mary Josephine Allen – before she was born the Mormons were persecuted & driven out of Nauvoo, IL-so O. M. Allen like most all Mormons had to leave home & hunt work for their support. So O. M. Allen went back to Missouri where he use to live & was gone a long – long time. There was no mail service in those days so his wife Susannah (Ward) Allen never heard from him. She had been left with her parents, her baby was born (Mary Josephine) then some other wandering Mormon brother told Susannah he had known Mr Allen in Mo (Missouri) & said Mr Allen had the cholera & died. So Susannah considered herself a widow & when her parents left Iowa for the long trek to Utah Susannah & her baby went too. The Utah people use to stand at a certain place whenever they heard of a new company of emigrants coming to town-just to see if there were people in that company they had known before in Illinois or Iowa – and one day Susannah stood with those that watched & was amazed to see O. M. Allen the leader of that company - & she had already married a second time and was expecting a second child by him.- Lindsey A. Brady her second husband was fair & offered to give her up to O. M. Allen- but O. M. Allen was angered that Susannah had married so soon and refused to take her back.

In 1885 Jane (Wilson) Allen 1st wife of O. M Allen was living with her (bastard) son John O Hurley “Hall” and his wife Lucy (Prisby) (Allen) “Hall” the woman who had been the wife of Jane’s older son James Chandler Allen. These 3 (Jane, John Hall & Lucy) & the children of John & Lucy & some of Lucy’s children by James C Allen were living at Nutioso Apache Co Arizona when one night here came Jane’s first husband O. M. Allen & their son James C Allen in a covered wagon & stayed all night to visit the women. Jane who had been the 1st wife of O. M. Allen & Lucy who had been the 1st wife of James Chandler Allen…..it was another man named Allen who died in Missouri with the cholera……..

Dr Joseph Smith Wing married (M 1) Rebecca Davis of Pike CO Illinois. They had two children Adelia Wing and Byron Wing. Adelia (B 20 June 1850) married Martin S Bohne {pronounced Bonnie}. Byron (B 21 Nov 1853 Clayton Adams CO Illinois) married Anna Belle Gore. Bryon was still living in Feb 1942.
Then Dr. Wing wanted to move to Wisconsin, a new country that was just opening but his wife would not leave her parents. So he left her, and the children at Clayton Illinois and Dr Wing settled at Black River Falls, Wisconsin in the back woods about 100 miles (10 miles?? from Black River. Dr Wing took wife #2 Frances. She had some big brothers and a large father and when he heard rumors that folks knew he was not divorced he walked that 100 miles in a hurry one night (??could if of been 10 miles???) under pretense he was going to a dance.
The 3rd time he took a wife at Black River Falls he married under the name of Joseph Smith (omitting the Wing). She was a Norwegian woman named Signa Anderson. They had two (2) sons, Miland and Omer who always used the name of Smith. Miland is still living (Feb 1942) and only in the past few years did he visit some of the folks in Utah and learned his real name was Wing.
Dr. Joseph Smith Wings 4th wife was the widow of James Strange. ( Strang T.N) She was Sarah Adelia (Wright) Strange. (Strang T.N) (James) Strange (Strang T.N) left her (Sarah) with a baby boy to support (he was shot to death T.N) so she fell in with Dr. Wing and learned nursing-making them work together for she learned from him-they lived together and had several children before they finally married. After they moved to Utah their children were these-Elizabeth Wing (B 1860 Black River Falls, WI, married Joseph Bohne. May Wing (B 1 May 1862 Sweetwater, WY, married Joseph Fuller. Joseph Wing (called Dode) (B 1864 Springville Utah, married Adelaide Lisenbee. Sarah Wing (B 1867 Springville Utah, married John Diamond. Benjamin Wing (B 11 Feb 1869 Springville Utah, married Amanda Lisenbee. Amanda Wing (B 20 July 1872 Springville Utah, married Ammi Oakley. (Amanda still lived in Springville at the time this history was documented)
Dr. Wing married for 5 wife Elizabeth Marshall and was sealed to her Aug 1863 the same time he was sealed to wife # 4 Sarah Strange. (Strang T.N) Elizabeth is said to have had one (1) child but Dr. Wing told her the child did not live. (No more is known about Elizabeth or the child)
Dr. Wing’s 6th wife was your grandmother Mary Josephine Allen. The 7th wife was a Danish woman Anene Sophia Bohne {Bonnie} and related to 2 of Dr’s son in laws. By this marriage there were three (3) children. Frederick William Wing (B 25 June 1870 Springville, Utah, married Sopha Erath. Hugh Bohne Wing (B15 Mar 1873 Springville, Utah, married Mary E Kirkman. Sigma Sophia Wing (B 5 June1867 Springville, Utah, married Charles Orson Law. (These are the parents of Ray Law of Odgen, Utah who wrote to you)
The 8th wife was a daughter of Sven Larson of Mt Pleasant, Utah-no children here. Wife # 9 was another Danish woman Amelia Henricsen. They had one son Henry Wing (B 22 May 1873 Springville, Utah, D 12 Dec 1933 at San Bernardino. Henry married Johnnah Madsen and have a large family living at San Bernardino.
When the Mormons gave up polygamy Dr. Wing really had four (4) families living at Springville, Utah but he abandoned them all to shift for themselves with their children and he took wife # 10 a spiritualist woman named Frances Anna McCurdy. They had no children but did not live together too long for he went back to Mary Josephine Allen and wanted to make up with her but she refused. He tried the Strange (Strang T.N) woman and she too refused. He may of tried others but his last years he spend alone running a drug store at Kingston, Utah. He dug his own grave on the top of the knoll near Kingston and erected his tomb stone-all but the date of his death. Today a path leads up to that knoll. Curious people to see what that object is that looms up there so high.
When Dr Wing and Sarah Strange (Strang T.N) started for Utah
they went by Rebecca Davis, the Dr’s first wife and Dr. stole their
girl Adelia from Rebecca and took her to Utah. Dr. Wing wanted the boy but
the boy was little and in the care of others so Dr. Wing didn’t get
Byron.
(Recently discovered documents at the Pike County Courthouse in Pike
County, Illinois reveal that Dr. Wing legally took over the guardianship
of Adelia Wing who was in the custody of her grandmother, Amy Pettis Wing.
