Rev. William PATTON (ca 1796-1856) was born in Montgomery Co, VA to Henry Thomas PATTON, Jr. and Elizabeth HICKMAN. William PATTON married Ann FERGUS in Montgomery Co, VA in 1815. William PATTON was a Methodist Episcopal minister in the Abingdon, VA area and then migrated west to Missouri where he was a minister and a missionary to the Indians. He died in 1856 in Platte Co, MO. His children: Louisiana Patton, b. Aug 27, 1816 in Montgomery Co. VA,d. Searching for information or someone researching William Patton married to Mary J. (Davis) Patton on 9 Sept. 1852 in Rutledge,Grainger Co. TN. 2 children that I know of, Joseph Patton b. 1870 Hawkins Co.TN, and his brother John Jack Patton b. 1872 Hawkins Co.TN My grandfather and great Uncle respectively. He sailed from Londonderry, Ireland age 25 on the ship Provinciant arriving in Philadelphia on May 20, 1849. Patton was a Rear Admiral in the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey and commanded the USC&GS steamer Explorer in 1914 and made surveys of Prince William Sound, Alaska. In 1915 he was appointed chief of the Coast Pilot Section in the Washington D.C. office, and during WWI he served as a Lieutenant and Lieutenant Commander in the Navy. He served as a member of the U.S. Geographical Board from Dec. 1926 to June 1934. Rear Adm. I am looking for information regarding William Patton, born in 1805 in North Carolina. He is believed to have been born in Buncombe County. He married a Barbara ? sometime in the late 1820's. I have reason to believe that my William is the one listen in the 1840 Buncombe County Census page 141. I am looking for information regarding the family of Mary Patton. Mary was widowed between 1875-1880. She and her children moved from either Georgia and Tennessee to Morgan County Alabama. On the Morgan County 1880 census she indicated that all of the children were born in Tennessee. Mary had the following children: 1. William A. Patton born 1868 ;2. Annie Patton born 1872 3.
