Smart-N Modular Railroading
with the
Meade Area Railroad Society
(MARRS)
What is Smart-N?
Smart-N ("Smart" stands for "Smaller Modules Are Readily
Transportable") is an N-scale modular layout
standard developed by
the Meade Area Railroad Society (MARRS). Designed around small basic
modules and a two-track mainline, Smart-N attempts to minimize the
hassle involved in building, storing and (especially!)
transporting modules.
Smart-N Features
- Two-track mainline
- 17-inch minimum radius
- Dogbone (loop-to-loop) configuration
- 1x2-foot and 1x4-foot basic modules
- 2x2-foot minimum corner modules
- "No-stoop" operation (walk-in access to central area of layout)
- Symmetric wiring (no special wiring for reversed or inside-corner
modules)
- Easy interfacing with other N-scale module types including NTrak
