How to Set Up a Local Band Under the MNNE

The Metis Nation in New England wants to allow as much freedom as possible to the workings of each and every local group affiliated with it. In order to do this, we have very few guidelines that must be adhered to in order to keep things uniform and in line with the sacred traditions of respect handed down by our ancestors.

All Local Groups may determine the traditions they wish to follow, be they specific ways of a particular First Nation, Christian or any other they so choose, so long as they follow the Code of Ethics incorporated in the Constitution of the Metis Nation in New England.

Setting up a Local Group is a simple task. Any member of the Metis Nation in New England can do so if she/he writes a letter of intent to The Metis Nation in New England, PO BOX 1013, Washington, NH 03280-1013.

Included in this letter, please inform us of your traditional base (which traditions will be primarily followed by your group), how many members you have to start out with (there is no set number to qualify), where you want your group to be centered, and whether or not you already have potential administrators lined up for this group, (PLEASE NOTE: All potential administrators of applying groups must be members of the Metis Nation in New England. Once your group is set up and accepted, you then can sign up members on your own who will automatically become members of the MNNE).
For complete legal requirements, see Title Four in the Constitution of the MNNE
