WE ARE BORN PSYCHIC It is as if nature had safeguarded each child from the influence of adult reasoning, so as to give priority to the inner teacher who animates him. He has the chance to build up a complete psychic structure, before the intelligence of grown-ups can reach his spirit and produce changes in it. Dr. Maria Montessori, M.D.

PSYCHIC FAMILIES Like a plant, or any other living organism in nature, the human child is born with an inborn drive to fulfill his or her potential, as a spirit in a body. Although the "Montessori Method" of education is most famous for its application in schools, its most powerful use is in the homes with psychic families, that is families which consider it it their sacred work to bond with, to observe carefully, and to aid the work of nature in the formation of the human being.

PSYCHIC EDUCATION MARIA MONTESSORI, M.D., born in 1870, was the first woman in Italy to receive a medical degree. She worked in the fields of pediatrics, psychiatry, education and anthropology, never publishing a theory until she had observed it, with children of all kinds, from all social classes, and in many countries. All other methods of education have taken the work of certain adults as their point of departure and have sought to educate or teach the child according to programs dictated by adults. For my part, I believe that the child himself must be the pivot of his own educationnot the child as people ordinarily think of him, but rather his innermost soul, seen from a perspective that was unprecedented before the advent of what has been called the Montessori Method. A little parable may help illustrate the idea I am trying to express. Suppose that we have a diamond embedded in a dull matrix and that we remove the surrounding material to reveal the bright jewel. Seeing the jewel, some might ask, "How have you gone about obtaining a precious stone that reflects the light so perfectly?" We would reply that we are not the creators of this marvellous jewel; it already existed, buried deep within the extraneous matter surrounding it. The same can be said of the child. He has shown us how he should be treated and has revealed his splendor to us.
