"SHR" NEWS:

DVD Issue:

(September 1, 2002)
Recently heard from Darrell Stern (voice of Scooter Computer).  Apparently neither he nor Bob Kaliban (voice of Mr. Chips) are given credit for their work on the DVD.  I am checking into this and will post updates as I get information.

DVD Issue:

(August 30, 2002)
Apparently not all of the episodes are included on the DVD as advertised.  The fourth "Scooter Computer & Mr. Chips" episode called "Introduction" is missing.  I will let you know what I find out about this issue as soon as I know something.

DVD Update:

(August 27, 2002)
The 30th Anniversary DVD was released today.  Also, a collection of the 25 favorite episodes (as picked by the fans) is available on VHS.

DVD Update:

(June 19, 2002)
The DVD will be released in August 2002. It will include all of the vignettes, including "Scooter Computer and Mr. Chips." This kicks off the 30th Anniversary of Schoolhouse Rock (1973 - 2003). Hopefully Disney will do some sort of promotion. I'll update when I hear anything else.

DVD Update:

(July 18, 2001)
The DVD will include extras consisting of the EMMY award ceremonies, past interviews with Tom Yohe and George Newall, and current interviews with many of the creative team members. Also a new song/cartoon will be include about the Electoral College.

The new song was written by George Newall, arranged by Bob Dorough, artwork by Tom Yohe, Jr. and sung by Jack Sheldon. The new character is "Boothy," a voting booth (see picture below). Recording will be taking place on Thursday, July 26th, 2001 in Los Angeles.

Upcoming DVD Release!

(March 31, 2001)
I have received word that Grammar Rock, Science Rock, America Rock, Multiplication Rock, and Money Rock will be available soon on DVD. Unfortunately, "The Weather Show" still may not be included due to legal issues. However, there is a chance that "Scooter Computer and Mr. Chips" may finally be released on this collection (No confirmation on this yet).

I also have been informed that this DVD release will include a new song about the Electoral College. George Newall and Bob Dorough will collaborate on the music. Tom Yohe, Jr. will be doing the design work. Phil Kimmelman will be doing the animation. This DVD is currently scheduled for a December release. I can hardly wait....

The SHR Family Loses Tom Yohe.

(December 22, 2000)
I have sad news to report today, Thursday, December 22, 2000. Thomas Yohe, one of the creators behind "Schoolhouse Rock," died of cancer. He was 63 years old. He is known to an entire generation for being the creative director behind ABC's Schoolhouse Rock. It was his artwork that is seen in most of the vignettes.

My condolences go out to his family as well as the condolences of all the SHR fans out there. He will be missed, but because of his contributions to SHR, his impact on an entire generation will never be forgotten. His memory will live on forever.

David McCall, Creator of Schoolhouse Rock.

(April 20,1999)
On Sunday, April 18, 1999, David McCall (71) and his wife Penny(57) died in a car accident near Kukes, Albania. They were on a mission for Refugees International, a Washington DC-based organization on whose board both David and Penny served. Much of his life was spent doing charitable works. Sunday was no different. David and Penny were helping to set up radio broadcast equipment to help Kosovar refugees locate missing family members.

David McCall was the creative force behind many well known advertising campaigns during the 60's, 70's and 80's. However, he is most well known to the children of 70's and 80's as the man whose idea created Schoolhouse Rock! My heartfelt condolences go out to the McCall family. His little idea about putting lessons to music has made such an impact on my life and, by the email I have received, a great deal many other lives as well. I think I can speak for all the fans of SHR when I say, Mr. McCall made an enormous impression on our generation, he will never be forgotten, and he will be truly missed.
