Introduction A common misconception is that Mountain View is surrounded on all sides by endless development. Sometimes it seems that way as you drive down El Camino or on the freeways as Mountain View blurs into Sunnyvale, Palo Alto, and Los Altos. However, if you start driving north towards the San Francisco Bay, you'll find that the development ends. The northern most portion of the city has been dedicated as a park and wildlife preserve named Shoreline at Mountain View. Over 800 acres of open space and parkland make up Shoreline and offer Mountain View residents a much needed respite from the bustle of the city. Very few cities the size of Mountain View have city parks in their borders this large. When you look on a map, you will find that Shoreline is about the same size as the entire Old Mountain View neighborhood. The park offers a variety of recreational activities as well as diverse natural environments. The links at the top and bottom of this page offer information and pictures on the various aspects of this scenic district of Mountain View.
