Hello!  My name is Destinee Lynn!  I was born December 4, 1997. I weighed 8 lbs. 13 1/2 ozs & was 21 1/2" long. I had lots of dark brown hair.  When I was born, I had a dented forehead.  My pediatrician thought it was birth head, but it ended up being alot more than that!  I had Right Coronal Craniosynostosis.

What is Craniosynostosis?
Craniosynostosis is premature fusion (closing) of the skull bones.  Basically, I didn't have a soft spot when I was born.  When Mommy said I was being hard-headed, she really meant it.

I had surgery on May 14, 1998, at Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK for craniosynostosis. My surgery lasted 7 hours! It was a long day! Dr. Francel & Dr. Panchal did a cranial vault remodel and advanced my right orbital.
I spent my first day after surgery in Pediatric ICU. For the next 6 days, I got to stay in a big hospital room since I'm a big girl. My mommy & daddy stayed with me the whole time I was in the hospital.  They talked to me and held my hands since I couldn't open my eyes for 7 days.  It made me feel alot better knowing they were there with me.

My daddy helped me sit up when I didn't want to lay down anymore. My head was really heavy so it was hard for me to hold it up by myself.

Dr. Paul Francel and Dr. Jayesh Panchal operated on me 'cuz they do lots of surgeries for kids like me that have craniosynostosis.  Dr. Francel is a really smart doctor -- he does a lot of brain surgeries.
Dr. Panchal is my plastic surgeon.  He made a wavy incision from ear to ear so my hair won't part on the incision.  My head looked like a baseball when they took off my bandages.  My head and eyes swelled up REALLY BIG, too. My mommy and daddy were really scared because I kept swelling after surgery.  My inner eyelids had to pop out to cover my eyes because my head was so swollen.

I'm completely recovered now. My hair has grown back and you can't see my scar.  I'm really happy that Mommy & Daddy let me have surgery because my brain has room to grow now. Now I can be a genious (just ask Dr. Robin Gurwitch).
Mommy says it time for me to sign off the computer.  If you would like to talk to Mom about Craniosynostosis, my surgery, or my doctors, you can email her at ma2destiny@aol.com.

I had my 4th eye surgery this morning to correct the alignment of my eyes.  After surgery, I only see one picture.  I used to see two different things and had to decide which eye to use.
