Special Effects Techs Injured in Blast

Three special effects technicians were severely injured during an untimely explosion while preparing for a scene in the upcoming action movie "Black Dog". The planned scene included two trucks colliding with a resulting explosion, but during a final saftey meeting among crew members, one of the three charges being used exploded unexpectedly. The charge, a napalm-like substance that produces a bright flash, blew the door off one of the vehicles and ignited a fire. Two of the three injured crew members were caught in the explosion and are in critical condition. The third suffered burns over 10% of his body while helping to extinguish the fire on the other victims. No names were released.

The Classics are in the Mail

The United States Postal Service has finally given the classic horror characters the recognition they deserve with the release of a new set of stamps. The stamps are graced with the in-makeup faces of the classic actors Lon Chaney (Phantom of the Opera), Bela Legosi (Dracula), Boris Karloff (Frankenstein & The Mummy), and Lon Chaney Jr. ( The Wolfman). The pictures are excellent likenesses of both the actors and their eternal characters. Ask your local post office for more information

Love Aliens? Then this is for You!

The popular movie magazine Cinescape has just created an issue dedicated totally to alien movies, particularly the upcoming Alien Resurrection. Also included in the special issue are articles about the past Alien movies, Species, Star Trek: First Contact and Storm Troopers. A lot of it looks at the special effects side. If you're interested, Cinescape can be found at most book stores and magazine stands.

Special Effects School Closes

We are sorry to announce that Special Effects Workshops, an FX school located in New York City, closed recently. The school, which offered courses from stop motion animation to advanced visual effects, was one of the few specialty schools for FX on the east coast. Sources say that it was lack of interest that caused the SEW shut down.
