Gateside, a lovely self catering holiday cottage, sleeps 5, 3-bedrooms, gas-fired central heating and log fire. The long stone barn overlooking the village green dates probably from the eighteenth century. The southern portion, Gateside, has all the typical features of a North Yorkshire threshing barn. You can trace the outlines of the two former doors connected by a straight through passage, to blow away the chaff and dust when the ears of corn were separated from the husk by beating with wooden flails. The pitching hole, for tossing the sheaves into the barn off the harvest waggon, has been slightly widened to make the east window in the sitting room. |

The cottage is arranged to make best use of the superb beams and roof timbers upstairs. The bedroom doors are all antique pine and the modern woodwork is in keeping. |
Downstairs: Three flagstone steps, front door opening to hall. Double, twin and single bedrooms, airing cupboard. Warm 3 piece bathroom with shower over the bath. Floor level is above ground level, ensuring privacy in the two bedrooms facing the green. |

Upstairs: beamed kitchen/dining room, well equiped with gas cooker, microwave, fridge, fitted cupboards, automatic washer/dryer. Lovely big sitting room with sunny windows overlooking courtyard and village green, splendid beams, woodburning stove in fireplace (free basket of firewood) and comfortable chairs and a comfortable sofa. 14" Colour TV/DVD, Radio/CD, telephone for incoming calls. Some traditional toys. Cot and high chair available, but please bring your own cot linen and bedding. Sorry, no pets. |
