Hello, and thank you for this opportunity to tell you about ourselves and our dream of creating a family through adoption. We hope that by the time you're done reading about us, you'll be as comfortable with the idea of placing your child with us as we are excited about becoming parents.

A Little Bit About Ourselves: We have been in a committed, stable relationship for 9 years. Those years have been filled with lots of love, laughter, adventure and happiness. We enjoy many of the same things: nature and the outdoors, hiking, biking, skiing, reading, playing the piano and travelling. Larry is a great cook and loves to entertain friends and family at home. Marc enjoys photography and painting. We look forward to sharing those and many other interests with our child.

We both have good, stable jobs. Marc is an attorney for the U.S. government and Larry is a manager for a large commercial landscape company. Each of us has the ability to work flexible hours, and both of our employers have great parental leave, health care, and vacation policies. We're both college educated (Marc also has a law degree), so we know how important it is for a child to get a good education.

Our Home: We own a comfortable home in Washington, D.C., with a white picket fence and a yard full of flowers. Our neighborhood is safe and quiet, with lots of families and kids of all ages. There's an award-winning elementary school just a few blocks away, and a national park nearby, where we enjoy taking long walks with our golden retriever, Lobo. There's even a big hill in the park where the neighborhood kids love to go sledding in the winter. (Okay, we admit it, we like to go sledding there too!)

Our Families: We're surrounded by loving families and friends. We both come from families with three children (Larry has a sister and brother; Marc has two brothers). Larry has two nieces and a nephew, and so does Marc, so our child will have lots of little cousins to play with. Larry's parents, sister and brother all live close by, and we spend a lot of time with them on the weekends and on family vacations. Marc's family is more spread out -- his parents live in Paris, France; one of his brothers lives in Boston; and the other brother in New York -- but the family makes a point of getting together (in Paris or in the United States) several times a year. Marc's parents tell us they're looking forward to having another grandchild to shower with kisses and gifts once we adopt!

Our Hopes and Dreams: We're eager to experience the joys of parenthood, but we also understand and are ready for the great responsibility that comes along with it. We have been an active part of our nieces' and newphews' lives from the day they were born, so we know about both the joys and the challenges of raising a child. We dream of cradling our own child in our arms, hearing him (or her) speak his first words, seeing him take his first steps, and teaching him to ride his bike. We can't wait to read bedtime stories to her (or him), take her to the Smithsonian museums, collect seashells with her on the beach, show her the sites of Paris, and experience the world through her eyes. Our love for our child will be unconditional and, in return, we only hope that he or she will love us back.

Some Final Thoughts: It seems that every web page like this we've read says it, but it's true: We can't imagine how difficult it must be for you to make the decision to place your child for adoption. We admire your strength and courage, and applaud you for being so careful about choosing the right couple to raise your child. We know that if you're considering a gay couple, you must be very special. With us, your child will grow up knowing just how special you are, and that your decision to place him or her with us was made from the heart. We are confident that we can provide a safe, loving and nurturing home and a happy, healthy and exciting life for our child.

In closing, we'd like to share with you a letter that Marc's cousin (who has two kids of her own) wrote to us shortly after learning of our plans to adopt. In it, she says:

"I am writing because I wanted both of you to know how excited I am for you about your adoption plans. I am sure it is a very difficult process, but the rewards of raising and caring for a child will certainly pay off. I think the two of you will make wonderful parents as you are both such caring and gentle people. It is those qualities that are so important to have in raising a child (patience helps too!). When you two do adopt, I really believe that they couldn't ask for two better daddies!!!"
