New Projects

Dirt Pile

In 1998 we decided to add a waterfall and stream to the big pond. We got as far as getting a load of dirt and several hundred pounds of rock, but due to many factors beyond our control we never got much further along than this:

The dirt pile collected an amazing assortment of weeds for the next 3 years. Our plan for the project changed as well. We resumed working on the project this year. It is going slowly, but since both my husband and myself are retired now, we have high hopes of making some significant progress this year.

Dirt and Rocks

The Growing Pond

Growing Pond

My passion for collecting water lilies resulted in overcrowded conditions in the pond. The yard soon became littered with an amazing assortment of buckets and plastic containers in all shapes and sizes. Mowing the grass was like running an obstacle course. In order to alleviate the situation without digging another permanent pond, we decided to build an above ground growing pond. We build a cement block pond that was 2 blocks plus a cap block high and lined it with roofing material. Later, after the sides bulged a couple of times we pounded iron stakes into the holes for added support. As you can see it didn't take long to fill it up with lilies (smile). We later added a wooden frame to cover the top and hold the liner in place.
