Melrose Place
Episode #128 / Season #4
Title: "Peter's Excellent Adventure"
Original Air Date: Monday, May 06, 1996

Synopsis

[Mancini & Hart Designs]
Jake zooms over on his Harley to confront Richard, with Alison on his tail in her Camaro. How Jake figured that Richard would still be at the office goes back to Melrose Lesson #13: If you're looking for someone and it's nighttime, most likely they'll be in their office. Come to think of it, however, I've never really seen Richard's apt. Maybe his office is his apt! Anyway, Jake barges into Richard's office and bashes Richard once with his helmet before Alison has a chance to stop him. Richard quickly reaches for the nearest item to whack Jake with, which unfortunately for Richard, happens to be a pin cushion, as he says, "C'mon Hanson!" Alison convinces Jake that they'll let the courts determine Richard's fate for raping Jane. As she tugs at Jake's leather, he makes Richard a promise, saying "You better hope you go to jail, else you're a dead man!" Oh great. Now when they find Richard dead, Alison will be forced to testify that it was Jake who made threats against Richard's life!

[Wilshire Memorial]
Peter, tired of waiting for Alycia to answer her cellular phone, finally gives up and he and the detectives walk down the hospital wing hallway. The detectives want some privacy in order to question Peter, so they choose the nearby Emergency Room, where usually only dead bodies hang out. Peter keeps repeating that he had nothing to do with Bobby Parezi's death; that Alycia Barnett admitted to the killing while they were talking on the car phone, but that there was a lot of static and they got cut off. The detective responds, "Oh, I'm sure she'll call you back. It's only been, what, four hours!?!" Four hours? Either Wilshire Memorial has one awfully long hallway, or they walk slower than my grandmama. Then, a nurse who's been in the room the whole time, interrupts them when she overhears the name Alycia Barnett, saying, "Oh, she's right here, Dr. Burns. Paramedics just brought her in. Motor vehicle accident. D.B.C.P.M. (Death By Cellular Phone Misuse)" There on a gurney is Alycia's bony body wrapped in a Hefty Cinch Sac, brought all the way back to the capital of corpses, Wilshire Memorial. The humanity of Alycia's death is quickly lost however, when Amanda arrives and smacks Peter one in the kisser, knocking him out of his shoes. Luckily, Alycia's body is there to break his fall. The detectives, caught off-guard by the power of this blonde bombshell, finally restrain her. Peter, trying to lighten the situation, says "If you think her fist packs a punch, you should see her kiss!" As the detectives drag her away she yells "Bobby told me you set him up and framed him for bribery. You kept me in the dark!" Then she says what she says every week, "I've said it for the last time. Never, never lie to me."

[Police Station]
The detective grills Peter 'til he's well-done, but of course, he's not under arrest since the evidence is only circumstantial. But rather than dust Peter's office for prints, the cop asks Peter to come back the next morning at 9:00 am so he can resume the interrogation. Michael arrives as Peter is exiting the building, and asks Peter if he claimed self-defense. Peter corrects Michael, saying that he did not kill Parezi, but needs Kimberly to vouch for him. Michael admits he has no clue where she is though. Peter informs Michael that Kimberly is suffering from multiple disorder syndrome. Michael admits she's been acting a "little wiggy" lately, but had attributed it to the Brandi affair. Peter hits Michael on the head when he says that one of those personalities, Betsy, was the one with the hammer, then adds "She needs help, Michael, she's lost. And God help me, I need her."

[MP, Jane's House]
Pool boy is busy at work, although it seems he's always cleaning the same area of the pool, namely the corner where Brooke whacked her head earlier this season. Alison and Jake are trying to convince Jane to stop lollygagging about her apartment wrapped in a blanket. She needs to get out, get some fresh air, and file rape charges against Richard. Alison does all the talking while Jake stands in the background assuming stoic-Billy poses. Jane tells them to "Get real," that she was drunk and they were celebrating when she invited Richard to her room, so no one will believe that it was rape. But when Alison reveals that she has a female friend in the D.A.'s office, Jane agrees to meet with her.

[L.A. County Courthouse]
Jane pays Alison's friend, Barbara Wilkins a visit. By the look of Barbara's bloodshot eyes, Alison must have made friends with this woman during her days and nights shooting vodka at the local watering hole. Still, Jane express relief at having a woman D.A. to talk to, admitting that at first she didn't think there was a case, but now feels maybe there's hope. Barbara tells Jane her instinct was right, there probably isn't a case. Barbara goes on to state that "All the witnesses at the party that night seem to confirm his (Richard's) story," even though she only heard about this case minutes earlier. She adds, "The odds are against conviction. Still, prosecuting gives you back a sense of your own personal power and it makes a strong statement. Jane, if you do have second thoughts about pressing charges, it's not something you can put away in a drawer. You have to deal with it, one way or another. I can give you the name of a good therapist, or gun shop?" Jane thanks her but says she'll handle it all on her own.

[Wilshire Memorial]
Some young boy is in the Emergency Room with a fever. Matt has his brand new rectal thermometer in his hospital coat pocket, but it will probably never see the light of day, because everybody these days seems to prefer having the fancy-schmancy aural thermometer device used on them instead! Matt asks the boy how long he's had this fever and when he replies 2 weeks, for some reason Matt looks at his watch (Huh?) Luckily (?) for the kid, Dr. O'Malley arrives and immediately has the boy wheeled off for X-rays STAT, after learning the patient has a fever. When Matt comments to O'Malley that he seemed rather curt, O'Malley reminds Matt, "We're not in the touchy-feely business. You got to learn to separate yourself from your patient's emotions." Matt says that's easier said than done, especially with a kid that young. O'Malley asks, "He is of age, isn't he?" Of age for what I don't really know, but at this point I thought I'd better skip to the next scene, especially after O'Malley says something to Matt about "keeping your tool sharp!"

[Burns-Mancini-Mancini-Burns]
It's nighttime and Michael is just leaving the office. In Sydney's weekly token appearance, she is busy behind her desk, mourning the loss of her dumb tattoo partner. In order to give some action to this otherwise lifeless scene, the writers have her yanking on the chain of her desk lamp, turning it on and off. Michael wants Syd to continue trying to reach Kimberly by dialing her at all her known phone numbers.

[MP, Jo's Apt]
Dominick O'Malley is loitering on the steps leading up to Jo's place, looking for a little conversation. She invites him in even though she has a ton of work to do, sorting through prints, mounting them, and cropping them. This excites Dominick, as he gets no better pleasure than by sorting things (and I thought "mounting" was the key word here!) She tells him to sort out the B&W photos and toss them into the dumpster out back. "Please," he begs, "no dumpster talk. A baby was found in one today, nearly dead." Jo breathes a sigh of relief, considering her only dumpster anecdote was how she and Jess did the dumpster-humpster back behind Shooters. But Dominick, not knowing when to quit, adds, "I'll never get why a mother would have a baby if she can't deal with the responsibility of caring for it." This immediately sends Jo on the defensive, firing back with "Well, you don't know her life circumstances. Maybe she only had bad options." Dominick replies, "Sure, okay, but when those options affect someone else, it just seems selfish to me." So Jo kicks him out. "Is it something I said?" No, O'Malley, she's giving you da boot 'cuz you don't know diddly about sorting photos. Doeii!

[Peter's House]
Amanda comes over, wearing the same blue outfit she wore all of last episode. It's truth time, and she wants to know if Peter set Bobby up. So Peter admits that Alycia wanted the business and he wanted Amanda, but that he didn't kill Bobby. Amanda tells Peter what he did to Bobby was terrible and that Bobby didn't deserve it. So Peter says, "I'm sorry. Now if you don't love me leave, but if you do I need you to hold me." Of course, Amanda forgives him, the fact that Bobby plunged to his death goes by the wayside, and they kiss. Meanwhile, Kimberly shows up, peeping in from an outside window. Could this be yet another personality, as Peeping Tom? No, she's just plain old Betsy, sick at what she's witnessing, but willing to wait for Peter and Amanda to satiate their carnal desires.

[MP, Jane's Apt]
Alison and Jake, the duh-namic duo, arrive to find out how Jane did with the D.A. Jane tells them, "She said a trial would be degrading, humiliating, and that I would probably lose." So Alison asks, "I don't understand, does this mean you're not going to pursue it?" (I think she's been hanging around Jake too much recently.) Then Alison delivers the dumbest line of the season, "C'mon Jane, let me take care of you." Jane responds by telling them to leave her alone.

[Peter's House]
The next morning, Amanda and Peter eat breakfast and Amanda leaves, but only after assuring Peter that she's behind him 100%. Then Kimberly pops in, all Betsy'd-up, telling Peter she's getting worse and needs to be committed. She didn't want to be humiliated by staying at a local hospital so she took the initiative to call in to a place up north named Willowbridge and has room waiting for her. Peter agrees to take her there but only after they drop by the police station so that she can confirm his whereabouts the night Bobby was killed.

[Wilshire Memorial]
During Dr. O'Malley's rounds, they stop at fever boy's room. It's Matt turn to read the patient's chart aloud. "Temperature to 104 last night, chest negative, and blood culture negative." O'Malley asks the kid, "Tell me, are you having any joint pains?" "Yeah, I got a big pain in my butt joint. I want out of here," the kid whines. Matt doesn't find any humor in butt joint pains, so he lets loose on the kid, telling him to shut up and that he'll be released only when the doctors decide. As they leave, O'Malley congratulates Matt on his "Don't Care" attitude. Matt admits it was difficult, so O'Malley quips that if Matt can't cut it, he can always resume his position as social worker. Matt balks, but O'Malley quickly calms him down, saying "Touchy, touchy. You're going to have to get a *tougher* skin than that if you want to stay on my team." Everyone giggles and they proceed with their rounds.

[Mancini Hart Designs]
Jane drops by to talk with Dick, who immediately starts balling her out for unzipping her mouth (Ah-ha, now you know what XYZ meant) about the rape. Jane tells him not to worry about Jake, Alison, or the police. She tells him she's ready to get on with business.

[Peter's BMW]
Peter is driving Kimberly to Willowbridge via the police station. She needles him -- literally -- by stabbing him in the leg with a syringe. The drug seems to take affect immediately, yet he manages to pull into an alley and apply the brakes. Most incredible is the fact they were on a road void of buildings and alleys at the time. In any case, Kimberly helps Peter into the back seat. Then she suggests that she drive him to a hospital rather than a police station, considering his physical state.

[D&D]
Michael stops by to ask Amanda if she knows Peter's whereabouts. He explains that he's been driving around looking for Kimberly and now Peter's missing. Michael is at his wit's end -- he's already checked their medical office; Peter never showed up at the police station for his 9 a.m. interrogation; and Michael even called Al Cowlings, but no luck! Michael suggests maybe Peter kidnapped Kimberly in order to brainwash her into being his alibi, but Amanda defends Peter saying he's not a kidnapper. When Michael adds that Peter is also a scam artist and a manipulator and a liar, Amanda corrects him again, saying Peter's not a liar. Yet, she feels something is wrong...

[Willowbridge Institute]
Kimberly pulls up to the front gate where 3 attendants are waiting. But rather than admitting herself to the nut house, it ends up that she had really called ahead to have a room readied for Peter instead. She refers to him as Mr. Peters, and provides them with a set of forged medical records. She informs the attendants that he has delusions of being a doctor and should be drugged immediately. He's still a little weak from the original injection so all he can do is scream in protest as they take him away.

[Beach House]
Kimberly arrives home the next morning. She is disgusted at the mess in the house, including the clump of sheets on the bed. With visions of bonfires dancing in her head, she reaches for the blankets, sheets, and lighter fluid, but is surprised when she finds Michael underneath the mess. She reminds Michael that they are still separated and that he shouldn't be sleeping in her bed. He tells her she needs to call Peter, but she denies ever having dinner with Peter and says he probably did kill Bobby. Then Michael mentions that Peter diagnosed her as having MPD which she also vehemently denies, appalled that Michael would take the word of a deranged killer over hers.

[Willowbridge Institute]
Peter finds himself stuck with a bunch of zombies in blue robes. He tries to convince the doctor in charge, Dr. Tucker, and Nurse Benson, that a terrible mistake has been made. At first, I figure he must be referring to Priscilla Presley's makeup. Is it my imagination, or does every cameo appearance by anyone over thirty-something have to look so hideous on this show? Then I realize he's talking about the mixup with Kimberly. He tries to prove he's a doctor, mumbling "The hand bone's connected to the, arm bone. The arm bone's connected to the, funny bone. The funny bone's connected to the, other arm bone, and that's the way it is." Dr. Tucker and Nurse Benson, although impressed, figure he's just a voracious reader. And the more Peter tries to explain, the deeper the hole he digs.

[MP Courtyard]
Jake runs into Richard and Jane as they are leaving her apartment. Seeing them together makes Jake sick, and he asks, "Am I missing something here?" Jane answers him with a question of her own, "Did it ever occur to you that I might prefer Richard's company to yours, or are you too dense to get it?" When she realizes the answer to her own question, she tells him flat out, "I don't want to see you anymore."

[Willowbridge Institute]
Peter tries to schmooze with Nurse Benson, but they're interrupted when Kimberly arrives to give him some therapy. She takes Peter aside and explains that she's getting even for what he did to Kimberly, and that he should sit back and enjoy the symmetry of the situation. When he reminds her that he released Kimberly so the symmetrical thing to do would be to release him, she informs him she can't do that until he's learned his lesson. Then she informs Peter that she's been moonlighting at this facility and has established a wonderful rapport with Dr. Tucker. And since Dr. Tucker went on vacation this week, she's become temporary acting director of the institute. She promises Peter he may be "leaving" even earlier than he expects.

[Shooters]
Just when you thought Melrose was approaching utopia, Billy pops into the picture. It must be halftime at the Los Angeles Galaxy soccer game because Billy arrives, opens a tab, takes a couple of swigs from his beer bottle, then trots agains, presumably to warm the bench for the next 30 minutes. In the short time he's onscreen, Billy admits to Jake that he's loved Alison all along, despite being a jerk, and asks Jake if he would talk some sense into her. Jake has his own problems and ends up not promising anything.

[Flight Jacket Cafe]
Michael and Amanda play detective at the same restaurant where Kimberly supposedly had dinner with Peter. Being a classy place, the restaurant photographer stops by to take their photo and in a couple of minutes, they can buy a plate or a coffee mug with their faces plastered on it. Amanda asks to see some samples, and while thumbing through the photo album, they spot a photo dated last week, containing Kimberly in the background. So now they know Kimberly was lying, but they still don't know exactly what she's trying to hide. They agree to break into Kimberly's office for more clues.

[MP, Jake's Apt]
Alison walks a drunken Jake home. He votes her as "employee of the month." He plops onto his couch, she lays a blanket over him, then seats herself down along side of him, practically straddling him as she asks, "Then how 'bout a raise, boss?" By the way he smiles you know someone just got a raise! Jake now realizes just what Billy was talking about at the bar earlier. So he says to Alison "No wonder Billy loves you. You must give him that SPECIAL feeling."

[Willowbridge Institute]
Nurse Benson and Dr. Kimberly Shaw are busy filling out forms like all good medical people are supposed to do. An attendant comes over to inform Kimberly that Mr. Peters keeps claiming that he's leaving soon. Kimberly clarifies that "leaving" is in the sense that his mental status keeps deteriorating, but Nurse Benson informs Kimberly that Mr. Peters appears to be getting better and that she recommends decreasing his medication. Instead, Kimberly responds by upping the dosage to 4 injections daily along with leather restraints if necessary. Nurse Benson feels this is a little severe but Kimberly warns that Mr. Peters is violent and self-destructive, and that he's been getting progressively worse in his last three institutions, and that if he's not cured this time, she's certain he won't be leaving alive.

[Shipyard]
Jo is busy snapping photos, but of what exactly I'm not sure. She's spinning around aiming at nothing in particular and you hear the motor drive whining away. Dr. O'Malley appears in front of her again. He's come to apologize for making her angry even though he is clueless as to what he did wrong, a definite male trait. He says he has feelings for her, but she corrects him, saying "Not for me, for who you IMAGINE me to be. Don't you get it? I'm not your type!" So O'Malley asks what type is she? "I'm the type who gave up her baby because she couldn't handle the responsibility of taking care of it." O'Malley is horrified, "You left your baby in a dumpster?" "No, but I probably conceived while being pressed up against one. Anyway, I gave mine up for adoption." O'Malley, not only a doctor specializing in child abuse but a spin doctor too, convinces Jo that giving her baby up for adoption was much better and cleaner than a dumpster and that's why he *loves* her. She tells him she's been staying away from him because she doesn't want to get hurt again, but the smell of his calfskin jacket overpowers her and she buries her face into his chest and they embrace.

[Wilshire Memorial]
Michael and Amanda break into Kimberly's office and find Peter's wallet, car keys and money clip. Amanda wants to call the police but Michael begs to give him some time to find her. Considering it's only Peter's life that is at stake, Amanda agrees to give Michael one day, but that's it.

[Willowbridge Institute]
Attendant Dave takes Peter for a walk. Peter tells Dave he has to do a "patient thing" in the Procedure Room. Inside, Kimberly is waiting to give Peter a new *charge* in life.

[Wilshire Memorial]
Matt needs to start an IV on "hot" boy. All the kid wants to know is what's wrong with him, but no one will give him a "straight" answer (especially Matt). "I don't think you dudes know what you're doing." Matt reassures him saying "We dudes know exactly what we're doing," then demonstrates by bungling the insertion of the needle into the kid's arm. Matt removes it, then attempts to reinsert the needle, but this time the kid pushes Matt down and runs out of the room. Matt gets up and discovers he's been pricked by the tainted needle and says, "Oh no."

[Shooting Range]
Steven Tyler said it best when he belted out:

Janie got a gun.
Janie got a gun.
The whole world's come undone...
What did her *daddy* do?
It's Janie's last IOU.
She had to take him down easy
And put a bullet in his brain.
She said 'Cuz nobody believes me'
The man is such a sleaze
He ain't never gonna be the same...

Yes, Janie got a gun all right. She blasts away at a paper target (of a *male* silhouette) and with each shot, she aims for the Hart! Even here, guys try to pick up on little blondie. Only the pick-up lines are a little different than at Shooters. One such stud approaches her saying "I see you're kinda new at this. What'd ya get it for, self defense?" Jane answers, "SAFE SEX!" Yikes, and he was just about to ask if she'd cock his pistol!
[To Be Continued...]

Immediate following Melrose was a special, "When Animals ATTACK". Narrator Robert Urich cautions us: "The following program contains graphic footage of animals attacking humans." Hey, what's the big deal? We just finished watching Melrose!
