PLOT SYNOPSIS

"In late 1928 [MGM] announced that William Haines and Bessie Love would star in a musical based on Nell Martin's novel Lord Byron of Broadway. The oddly titled book traced the journey of an out-and-out heel and user, a tunesmith who lets no opportunity for material go unpassed. Broken romances are put into song, old love letters become song lyrics, and the death of his best friend serves as the basis for a tear-jerking hit."
- Richard Barrios, A Song In The Dark

NOTES

"With the central roles so unappealingly cast, and a story. . .of only minimal interest, Lord Byron of Broadway didn't stand a chance at the box office. . ."
- Clive Hirschhorn, The Hollywood Musical

"When finally released, Lord Byron Of Broadway quickly sank, with the observation made again and again how lackluster casting had undercut its effectiveness."
- Richard Barrios, A Song In The Dark
