PLOT SYNOPSIS

"Transposed from its original French setting to Russia, its typical operetta-type plot had the Princess Tanya (Moore) falling for a dashing lieutenant (Tibbett) depsite the fact that she is already engaged to a Russian governor called Brusiloff (Adolphe Menjou)."
- Clive Hirschhorn, The Hollywood Musical

NOTES

"Two of the best voices to grace the screen in 1930. . .brought glory to the operetta New Moon which MGM presented in a no-expense-spared production, and which was a heartening box-office success."
- Clive Hirschhorn, The Hollywood Musical

". . .when New Moon opened at the end of the year, the notices were glowing. While much of it was arid and stodgy, the musical excitement created by Tibbett and Moore was genuine, and for a few weeks it was thought that this one film could be the salvation of the dying operetta."
- Richard Barrios, A Song In The Dark

The film New Moon was remade by MGM in 1940.
