According to Burke's volume on the "Extinct and Dominate Peerages of Great Britain," two distinct patents of Knighthood were granted by the crown, to the Barnham family. Both have lapsed in default of male heirs in the line of primogeniture.

The older paptent which was bestowed upon Sir Walter Barnham, who in 1377, was chief Baron of the Exchequer under King Richard II. This Crest (shown above) maybe similar to the origional. Information was taken from Fairbairn's Crests of the Families of Great Britian & Ireland

"Through the Cross to the Light"


The second patent which was bestowed upon Sir
Martin Barnum July 23, 1603, decended for five generations and lapased with Sir Robert Barnham, who died in 1728, leaving only one daughter, Philideliphia.

Blazon of Arms : Sable a Cross engrailed argent cantonee with four Crescents of the same.

Translation : The Crescent is the symbol of Faith and Hope. A Cross is representative of the Christian Faith.

Crest : A Dragon's head argent pelletee between four Dragon's wings sable bezantee.

Translation : The Dragon represents the Most Valiant Defender of Treasure.
