Vittles on the Go part 7

So nice to see you again ...

My crystal ball sez get comfy, you may be here for a while.
I thought I was done obsessing ...
seven pages in a week.
Oh hell, it's worse than tryin' to stop at one potato chip. Gotta be the best Trick'r Treatin' ever. Mail's been flyin' faster'n bats too. Lots of new goodies and links. No way I could possibly keep track of graphic credits - except for Signature Gifs -- Original Animated Gifs. The crystal ball and skeleton in web are just two examples of the finest work I've seen to date.

This is what'll happen if ya don't feed Bubba ... Better'n a beer belly I s'pose but you'll have to follow him around with a sponge.

You can take Bubba outta Texas ... ran a red light this morning. You have to understand, in Houston, red means punch it. "It's a blatant misuse of power, makin' ya sit there and let yer engine run." I hope I'm a witness if he ever tries that one a Missouri cop :)

We were on the way to breakfast when the crime occurred. I've been thinking about keeping track of all the meals I haven't been cooking - honest to gawd tho, it's killin' me not to able to try some of the recipes that have been popping up.

Eyeball Eggs

These deviled eggs are really easy, but look neat. (And "So gross my kids won't eat them.") Just hard cook eggs the normal way, but instead of cutting in half length wise, you cut in half the other way. Make the yolks the usual way, (I just mix mayo, salt and pepper, and dry mustard) and stuff back into whites. Cut a green olive and in half into circles with the red pimento in the center (the "iris"). Put one slice into each egg half.

These can be used as is, or as a salad. On a piece of lettuce, add a "bed" of alfalfa sprouts and nestle two eyeballs on each plate.

Spider Bread

I just make up a batch of white or wheat bread dough in my breadbaker. (Don't panic here, frozen bread dough should not be a problem.) Before it bakes divide in half, and let rise for about 30 minutes. (Follow frozen dough wrapper directions.) Then on a cookie sheet, sprinkle with flour or cornmeal, then form one half of the dough into an oval for the body. Divide the other half into 9 parts. Roll 8 into fat snakes for the legs. Attach four on each side using a little bit of water. Prop the center of each leg up with a ball of foil, so it looks like it is walking. The 9th part is divided into two, rolled in balls and attached to one end as eyes.

Mix one egg yolk and a little cold water and brush onto bread (this makes it shiny), or melted butter can be used instead. Then you can sprinkle on coarse salt or sesame seeds. Bake at about 300 degrees, about (I'm guessing, I never time it, I just watch it) 30 minutes, until it's browned on the outside and hollow when tapped on top.

These both go great with "bloody snakes" (spaghetti in tomato sauce), for a great Halloween dinner.

From the Creative Homemaking Recipe of the Week Club - (I made this once a looong time ago, hadn't seen the recipe since. My thanks to Rachel. It really is a very pretty thing for a buffet, s'pose you could ghoul it up with plastic spiders and such.)

Now, fly on over to Lois' Corner part 2 for her latest goodies - don't know what I'd do without her. She also sent three episodes to launch the True Kitchen Horror Tales department. Thought y'all might get a kick out of this little trauma too ...

Wow! You certainly ARE into Halloween - cute pumpkin costume. (Vittles on the Go, part 1) A friend's daughter did something similar last year - she wanted to be "bubble gum on a shoe" - first you find a large pink trashbag - easy in California - hard in NYC where she is now living. Then you cut holes for your arms and legs and stuff the bag with Kleenex! Long story short - she didn't get it right and wound up walking down Fifth Avenue with Kleenex falling out of the bag and a flip flop pinned to her hair!

Lois is responsible for Lib's latest too - The International Courtesy Whiz Exchange. Actually it was Coco, Lib's adopted sis who adopted Lois. The little squirt was jealous cuz she hasn't had a chance to leave her very own calling cards on the road. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity folks, register your beasty today. Lib'll even add your links (pet-related or not) - have fun. While you're over that-a-way, check Halloween Safety Tips for Pets. It's not one bit funny what can happen to pets at this time of year.

Haunted Halloween
Yahoo - a special treat for me. Don't know how Wraith possibly had time to do any reviewing between posting ideas and answering questions addressed to the The Haunted Halloween Mailing List.

Lib's buggin' me to get back on her work now - no rest for the demented. See ya' soon ...

Please remember when beaming over to links (inside or out), the back button may be the only way to rematerialize at point of origin. It's always a good idea to bookmark.
