Corky Sherwood
(-Forrest,-Silverberg)

(Played by Faith Ford):
Editors Note: Many people complain on how unrealistic the name "Corky Sherwood-Forrest" is. Well, just so you know, the name was actually an inside joke Diane English used to create parallels between both the actors and the characters they played. Faith Ford is married to actor Robert Nottingham, which is a reference to Robin Hood. In turn, for Corky to have a Robin Hood type of name given by marriage, Diane thought of the name, "Corky Sherwood-Forrest." Pretty neat, huh?
Bio: Corky was born in Nebo, Louisiana, along with two sisters. In 1982 when she was 19, (You know, that isn't chronologically accurate with the information given before the fourth season, but is with information afterwards. Don't ask me to explain, it's just a fun fact.) she became Miss Louisiana for the Miss America pageant. While reading a TV Guide before the competition, she read about Murphy Brown and decided that's what she wanted to be when she grew up (And Murphy was lucky because she almost lost to Victoria Principal too.). During the talent competition, she coordinated a closet (?) and became first runner up, and would later win by default.
Later in life, with no journalistic background, she would temporarily replace Murphy Brown while she was at Betty Ford. Miles Silverberg, impressed by the ratings she brought in, convinced the network to bring her on the show. She would win her first (And only) Humboldt in her second season, breaking Murphy's 8 year streak, with the story "A woman's touch at west peak".
There was also a storyline a while back that started in Christmas of the show's first season. During the party, Murphy took her painter Eldin come in, who immediately became infatuated with at first site. They met while she was coming to the office when they were dry on story ideas to give hers. This went on many times during the second season.
Near the end of that season, she would re-unite with a student from school named Will Forest (See his bio in the Recurring Characters section for more info). They fell in love and he proposed to her in the Space museum using one of their souvenirs as a ring. However, getting cold feet due to several reasons. The first was that she would have to miss and assignment in Paris to plan on her wedding (You know, in that episode she said she had never been to Paris, but in the second episode of the series, Corky comments that she had. Methinks there was an error that the editor missed).
The second was her name would become "Corky Sherwood-Forrest". She was also afraid of the fact that she would have to give up her career to be a housewife (Oh yeah, lose a high-prestige job to become a housewife. I can see people signing up for that.). Then there was the typical commitment thing. She revealed to Murphy she was a virgin (Which means Murphy won her bet with Frank.) and she was afraid Will would be the first and last man she would ever be with.
Confused, she ran away with Eldin. No, he didn't take advantage of her (Though the thought did pass his mind on 23 separate occasions.), they went to a coffee shop where house painters discussed ideas and talked. She realized that her career was too important to give up for Will and nearly called the wedding off until she met up with Will. They decided that Corky would support them while Will stayed at home writing his novels and that they would postpone their wedding so that she could still go to Paris. However, despite this, during the following season (After they were married) Eldin still was interested in Corky and even mailed his hair to her in the mail.
When Will started writing his book, "The Little Dutch Boy" Will and Corky began to spend more and more time apart. After trying to find the romance back in their relationship, Murphy suggested (kind of, you'd have to had seen the episode) they throw a dinner party. This was time we were shown real problems in the marriage after a series of comical events. Corky then went to Murphy's house on a way to a hotel to cool down (Will was going to but he didn't have any money) in order to ask for advice. After failing, Eldin decided to speak out and discussed what Will was going through (Since this speech seemed to apply to him too, I call this episode closure on the Corky/Eldin storyline. And sure enough, I haven't seen it brought up since).
After a few more instances where Will would greatly neglect her, to the point where she even resorted to almost having an affair with Miller Redfield (Thank God all they did was kiss). This ended with him saying he come back for her and wait until the fall of the Berlin Wall if he had to (Yes, it had already come down). When Will's movie was finally released, a man sued Will for plagiarism since he wrote a similar book 30 years ago. During the trial, Corky read her diary to the court to chart Will's creative process, but this also revealed the trouble in their marriage (Along with some hilarious info about the other characters). Afterwards, they decided to break up.
Later, around her 30th birthday, she would have a short fling with reporter Peter Hunt which ended soon after. Later, while helping co-worker Miles Silverberg move to a new apartment, they got to discussing how they didn't expect to be alone at this point of their lives. When Miles asked how to thank her, she asked if he would take her out for dinner and, unaware of Corky's romantic intentions, agreed. The fact that it was a date didn't arrive to Miles until co-worker Murphy Brown and former co-worker Peter Hunt made him aware of the fact.
Scared because of the fact that Miles only thought of Corky as a friend and employee, he confronted her and they decided it was a bad idea (Then kiss). After a series of events that have to happen because this is TV after all, the next time this would be brought up would be valentines day. They were paired up after not being able to find other dates and decided that dating could be interesting. Unfortunately, Miles was to busy to start a relationship since he was producing another news show called "The Next Wave" starring (Evil music) Miller Redfield. Miller said he that he finally returned for Corky after 3 years and they started a relationship.
After a series of occurrences, including Miles thought that Corky might be pregnant with Miller's baby (Imagine what that kid would be like.) and Miles trying to make Corky jealous by dating super model Vendela, Corky would finally decide Miller was not right for her and they had little in common when he asked her if she would have sex. Meeting Miles once again after stopping by Peter's bachelor party to give Frank his wallet, they kissed and ran out of the club together.
To the shock of their co-workers, they went to the Caymen Islands where they married. Miles and Corky agreed on having their co-workers go to a celebration party at Phil's, where Corky and Murphy had a chat and Corky revealed her doubts on the marriage (Along with the fact she and Miles had not yet slept together.). Corky and Miles had a discussion and agreed that they should stay married but go back to basics, and did not consummate their marriage until January.
Corky's and Miles's family also met for the first time after deciding to re-marry. Unfortunately, Corky had neglected to tell her parents of the marriage itself at the time (What I wonder is that Corky seems to be one of those types who are close to their family, meaning she had two major holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas to finally tell them.) which led to great shock. Anyway, their was great bickering and the show ended in a somewhat depressing but original ending.
Miles has since went on to work in New York, and Corky occasionally visits but complains of Miles lack of time for her (Which makes it very similar to her first marriage.).
