Eldin Bernecky
(Played by Robert
Pastorelli):
Bio: Eldin was an artist who grew up in a world that thought that the only things that mattered were money and power. However, despite this, he became a house painter. In 1988, during her fall from grace, he was hired to paint a mural for journalist Murphy Brown. After slacking off on the job, Eldin finally finished a mural of Civil War art in the kitchen ceiling on the night Murphy finished her first story since her returned from Betty Ford. Murphy, enjoying his work, gave him a few more assignments which he commented, "This could take a while."
On his first year on the job, Murphy decided to take Eldin with her to a Christmas party where he saw for the first time, Corky Sherwood and immediately fell for her. The next time he would see her would be while going to Murphy's office and asking for his pay (I think that's what it was, my sister destroyed the tape of that episode). This time he met her (Who was almost got run over by his girlfriend, I believe.) and became infatuated with her instantly (He was already considering marriage, she wasn't interested but didn't have the heart to turn him away similar to the Carl/Murphy thing.)
After a season of trying to interest Corky into finally starting something, at the end of the second season she was going to get married with Will. Having a serious cold feet, Corky ran off with Eldin and discussed her marriage with Will at a coffee shop (No, he didn't take advantage of her, though the thought did cross his mind on 23 occasions. This is a family show after all.). Afterwards, to Eldin's heartbreak, she would still marry Will (Don't be sad though, he said he would use the pain to create his next masterpiece, "Man dies on Honeymoon")
Eldin was not completely discouraged though, in a later episode he was shown to be mailing Corky hair in the mail. Closure on the storyline was not given until one grave episode where Corky was having marital problems. Murphy was unable to give any advice, so Eldin stepped in and told her how Will felt and how felt he needed to write to prove to Corky he was worthy of her. Since then, there have been no reoccurrence of this.
Soon after, his art was discovered by famed artist, Nathan David Weiss. After painting a mural, it was auctioned to a Japanese company for $1,200,000. This came with a series of events until he finally gave it to the poor due to the stress the money had brought (About $600,000 was left) .
When Murphy finally had her kid, Eldin was not only the painter but her nanny as well. This continued until the seventh season when his mom came by. Eldin's idol, a painter in Spain (I'm not sure, I missed this entire season and my local network doesn't have the rights to play it's syndicates.) decided to recruit Eldin who left the show, and his mother took over his job (Though I haven't seen her lately.)
Note: Robert Pastorelli went to go onto a show called Double Rush, another Diane English production (She left Murphy Brown at the end of the fourth season.) . This show was highly entertaining and I greatly enjoyed it, but no one seemed to have heard of it and it went poof after 12 episodes.
