Hello Fans of Old-Time Radio,

After many years spent as a guest on various radio programs, I finally got my chance to host my own program.

I hosted a four hour nightly radio program devoted to music from the 1930s, '40s, and '50s.

The program was titled: "In The Mood - Music of the Swing and Sing Eras"

On my very first program of August 16, 1993, I paid tribute to Big Bands of the 1930's and '40's, the singers from the '50's, and had a memorial tribute to Elvis Presley (who died on that day in 1977).

Over the next few months, I played major pop singers of that era, including:   Dick Haymes, Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, and many others.  Also such Big Band greats as Louis Armstrong, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and Artie Shaw.

Great songwriters were also featured, including: Irving Berlin, Hoagy Carmichael, George Gershwin, Johnny Mercer, and Cole Porter.

Each week I had a special "Wednesday Night at the Movies" when I played great movie songs and scores.

Occasionally I also had a "Tuesday Night at the Theater" and "Thursday Night at the Ballroom."

My opening theme for the show was naturally - "In the Mood" (Glenn Miller and His Orchestra) - the longer soundtrack version from his Glenn Miller's first movie, SUN VALLEY SERENADE, in 1941. For more about his music, go to:

POPULAR SONGWRITERS AND SINGERS (Anniversaries)

My closing theme was another natural choice - "Goodbye" (Benny Goodman and His Orchestra, 1935).

I'd like to do the program again but radio stations these days seem more interested in just loud rock and hip hop music, or lots of talk..talk..and more talk.

We need to hear the great music from the 1930's, '40s and '50s on radio so it won't be lost to the younger generation.

That's just the way I see it.
