Robert W. Marlin
BIOGRAPHY
Until now, genealogy has been primarily the province of older retired people with lots of time on their hands, who seek mental stimulation and satisfaction. Mr. Marlin makes a distinct effort to point out that genealogy should also be a hobby for younger generations, particularly those raising families, as they have the most to gain. Aside from the obvious satisfaction of establishing a continuity with the past, there is a far more compelling reason to create a family history. Many prominent physicians have already pointed out, that within ten years, having a family medical history for diagnostic purposes will become almost mandatory, because of the rapid advances in the medical areas of genetics and hereditary diseases. In many cases, the family records containing medical data is only available to the immediate family. Therefore it will be the job of each family to amass the necessary medical history.
Mr. Marlin's informed and articulate presentations, tempered with a touch of humor inspire many to get started immediately and others to get back into their research. During his lectures, he shares interesting anecdotes relating to his personal research, in order to prepare his audience for the personal facts, events and stories that each of them will uncover in their own research. His exuberance and enthusiasm leaves the audience ready to start their search right then and there. Mr. Marlin quickly gives his audiences an overview of his trademark no-nonsense approach which almost anyone can use to search their own roots. He relies heavily on methodology, self reliance and self discipline. He firmly believes that these traits, coupled with a comprehensive understanding of the many tools which are available to the beginner will enable members of the audience to find many of THEIR Sixteen great-great-grandparents. All of his lectures end with a Q & A sessions where he fields questions of all kinds and gives accurate, well informed answers. Attendees come away filled with enthusiasm and insight into the excitement that personal historical research can generate.
Mr. Marlin and his wife Sylvia reside in Altamonte Springs, Florida. In the past two years, more than fourteen of his articles have been published in Family Chronicle and Ancestry Magazines. A complete list of these articles can be accessed from the home page of this web site. Mr. Marlin is currently working on several books and additional magazine articles. His second book is a work of fiction which deals with many of the ancestors he uncovered in his search, as well as their descendants.
