We
hope you find this site to be fun, entertaining, educational and one that
you would like to visit from time to time. You're always welcome to just
come in, kick your shoes off, take the comfy chair in the corner and stay
as long as you please.
I'm
sure you have asked yourself "Why have a gay marching band?" Well
, I'll answer that with yet another question, "Why not?" I know ,
as a teenager, the one place I felt at home in school was the band
room. All the band members were my family. I mean, lets get
real! No matter what, we were ALL geeks....BAND geeks. So why not be surrounded
by gay band geeks? And of course, we do not limit our membership to Lesbians
or Gays. We welcome all who miss the excitement of lining up in the streets
waiting to hear that roll-off whistle.
This
band was started back in 1987 by a female drummer who was (and still is)
known for being bodacious. This woman wanted to play drums in her high
school band, but couldn't ... not because she was female, but because
her high school had cut the funding for the band, so there wasn't one.
In protest one Friday night during what would have been the half time show
she strapped herself to a bass drum,
marched to the 50 yard line, stood there alone and played.......
We
can only imagine the song was "Wipe Out". So for her, starting a lesbian
drum corp back in the late 80's wasn't really much of a stretch. By the
way, that bass drum is know as Big Mama and until this year was still
used as our bass drum.
She has been retired and is enjoying a well deserved rest. She was in commission
for almost 25 years. You can read more about the band in the history
section.
Almost
everything you see here was done with Corel, Paint Shop Pro, Webtricity
and a few other packages thrown in for flavor. I have a very fast, sophisticated
system and could have loaded these pages with all the bells and whistles
.... 3D graphics, flying this and flashing that. While designing
this space, however, I ran across great sites that even I stopped
loading after 2 minutes because graphics made the load time too long. There
are people out there who are still running on 486 systems and 14.4 modems,
so I have tried to design a web site that all can use. After all,
you design sites to be visited.....at least that's why I did. You will
find a few links to web pages I found useful in designing this site.
If you read what the professional web masters say about design you will
see I have taken their advice, not their graphics.
