ABOUT THE COURSE

Coastal Carolina Community College has been approved by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation as a school of instruction in Rider Safety Education.

WHY RIDER EDUCATION?

1. Upon successful completion of either the Riding and Street Skills (RSS) or Experienced Rider Course (ERC), the student may qualify for an insurance discount. After successfully completing the RSS, the student will also be exempt from the riding portion of the test given by the NCDMV, where the motorcycle endorsement can be obtained.

2. 92% of motorcycle accidents involve an inexperienced rider, who is either self-taught or taught by a friend or a relative, with no professional training. Hurt Study

3. Motorcycle riders in accidents showed significant collision avoidance problems. Most riders would overbrake and skid the rear wheel, and underbrake the front wheel greatly reducing collision avoidance deceleration. The ability to countersteer and swerve was essentially absent. Hurt Study
