Buddy Search

ComputerThis page was last updated on 20 March 2000.

Just to lighten things up once again I chose to play "Running Bear" this time.

It contains information about people I'm trying to locate. Some of them were mentioned in one or both of my books while others are people my correspondents are trying to find.

My first book has already reunited several Veterans. I hope this page will help to do the same with more.

In addition I'd like you to check out The Seeker in Florida. You can get to their site by clicking here.

Bill Hoffman is looking for his War buddy Nurse--CPT Edith Godfrey, Army Nurse Corps. She served at 24th Evac in Long Binh, 1968. Then she became the Head Nurse on Ward D-8 at Fort Ord, CA, 1969-70. Send mail by clicking here.

Bill Hoffman is also looking for a woman who served in Vietnam. Nurse Donna Hamilton served two tours in the Long Binh area. She might have been in the 93rd or 24th EVAC Hospitals. She was definitely there during 1968 because a photo of her by John Olson was found with that date on it. AND an article about it appeared in LIFE magazine in 1979. Donna also worked at Children's Hospital in Denver but has not been there in at least 10 years. If you know Donna's wherabouts please let me know and I'll pass the info onto Bill. He would like to invite her to attend his chapter's meetings. Send mail by clicking here.

She needs to find the Master Sgt, 1st Sgt, and the Company Commander who she believes was Dan Vaughn. Helen needs assistance from any of these soldiers to verify some events that happened while her husband, James David Ewing, was in their company. James needs to get service connected disability and these soldiers are her only hope. Can you please help me find them for Helen and Jim? Thank you. Just send me an email and I'll pass it along to Helen. Send mail by clicking here.

Phyllis’ grandfather, Arthur Paul Lathum, recently passed away. Arthur served in the Army Nov 44-Aug 45 in Italy where he was wounded. After receiving the Purple Heart he was returned to the states. Phyllis and her sister have been doing genealogy research for the past 10 years. They found Arthur’s two sisters who he hadn’t seen in over 70 years. BUT Phyllis is still searching for Arthur’s long lost brother--William H. Lathum. In the 1950’s William was a private in the Army. His last known mailing address was Co. C, Hover Company, Bx 55, Camp Upton, NY. If anyone knows of William’s whereabouts please contact me. Send mail by clicking here.

Charles W. Otto served with the 69th Division during World War II. He was seriously wounded on 18 April 1945 near Leipzig, Germany. He is searching for any medics, nurses, or doctors who might have been at the 45th Field Hospital, 2nd Evac Hospital, 108th General Hospital, 1st General Hospital, Battey General Hospital, or Oliver General Hospital. Those folks helped save his life and he wants to personally thank them. If you know any one from those installations please contact me. Send mail by clicking here.

Army Veteran Bill “Doc” Hoffman is searching for anyone who may have served with him and/or his buddy--Wayne J. Billeaud. Bill is trying to help Joyce Billeaud find someone who knew her son Wayne before he was killed at the beginning of a two day fight in Vietnam. Wayne was from Scott, Louisiana and at the time of his death was either a Specialist 4 or 5. Killed in action on 17 June 1971, Wayne was a member of “D”, 1/7, 3rd Bde, 1st Cav Div. (AM). Bill and Wayne had been based at Fire Support Base Mace. Two companies were decimated and everything was lost during the fighting about 15 kilometers from Black Virgin Mountain near TayNinh. There were not enough soldiers left for letters to be written home to family or survivors. Prior to that, Wayne had served with “E”, 1/7th; “A”, 2/7th (Cold Steel); and 5/7th prior to stand down. Joyce went 25 years without knowing how or where he died. She and Bill found each other by accident. Joyce is desperately seeking any other survivors of that fight besides Bill who knew Wayne and anyone else who knew him prior to that fateful day. I had the pleasure of meeting Joyce at the 50th Reunion of the 1st Cav Div. Assn. She was there hoping to find someone who knew her son. Joyce is one of many Gold Star Mothers I’ve come to know who knows little about what actually happened to their sons. I hope you can help. If you knew Wayne, please contact me and I’ll pass your information along to both Bill and Joyce. Send mail by clicking here.

Meanwhile Bill is also looking for some others he served with who came him him recreate his military awards record. Seems the Army lost his files--so what else is knew. Bill is trying to locate two surviving Platoon leaders of "D", 1/7th who recommended him for the Silver Star for the action dated 17-19 June 1971--also a former LT Bill Moyer whose Home Of Record was Pennsylvania. He is also looking for any member of "A", 2/7 who served during "Cold Steel" while he was a medic 11/70-3/71. In addition Bill is searching for former 1LT Ben Lohman ("A", 2/7) whose life he saved in December 1970. Ben was last known to be in Montana.

Bill and Barbara Harding are searching for James and Nancy Dickson. Bill and James served together in the Navy between 1968 and 1971. They were on board the USS Kersage attached to VAW-III. James was an E1B pilot who was originally from Baltimore. The last Bill heard from James, he was living in Overland Park, MO. Can anyone help Bill and Barbara locate James, Karen, and their two daughters? Send mail by clicking here.

Timothy Murdock is searching for Veterans who served with his father. Robert Dale Murdock (called "Red") was a SAC Instructor on B-52's and served during Korea and Vietnam. He was stationed in Thailand, Grissom AFB, and Wright-Patterson AFB. Tim is helping his mother search for these friends of her late husband. If you knew "Red" please contact me. Send mail by clicking here.

Here are four fellows who I would like to locate or help them find their buddies. If you know them kindly contact me and I will match everyone up. Send mail by clicking here.

Rennie Grant’s photo appeared on page 112 in Memories of Maggie but not his story. He had the pleasure of meeting Maggie and her group in November 1966 when she visited his advisory team and spent two nights with them. That was in the II Corps area of South Vietnam while he served with the Army. Rennie now lives in Dallas but he is still trying to locate his buddy Specialist VanHook.

Lieutenant Colonel George Massey retired from the Army. He was last known to reside in Fayetteville, Tennessee. He was mentioned and his picture appeared in Memories of Maggie on pages 132-133. Many folks are looking for him. Does anyone know where he is now?

Major Kenneth Robert’s photo of Maggie standing by a truck was in Memories of Maggie on pages 200 and 207. His last known location was Hinesville, Georgia. Does anyone know where he is now?

Reggie Hurd, the owner and manager of The Sandpiper in Laguna Beach, and his relationship with Maggie was mentioned in Memories of Maggie on pages 225-227. Unfortunately, I have lost track of him. Can anyone help me find him?
