Images of America: Mountain View

A lot has changed in the eight years since I began assembling this guide to Mountain View. Back then, there were no books and very little on-line content about Mountain View. Bay Area guidebooks rarely mentioned the city, and it was even left off of local maps. Today, with its vibrant downtown, frequently praised New Urbanist neighborhoods, and of course, the wild success of homegrown companies like Google, Mountain View has definitely put itself on the map.

My goal with this guide has been to give residents and visitors, newcomers and old timers, an on-line portal to the past and present of my hometown. Now, I'm proud to announce that a long-time dream of mine, to create a photo history of Mountain View, has come true. After years of research and a year of scanning, writing, and editing, Images of America: Mountain View has hit the bookshelves, and within its pages are even more photos and insights into Mountain View's history than even this guide offers.

But as always, this guide remains (albeit in need of some significant updates). So take some time, browse around, and learn a little bit about this unique city between the mountains and the bay.

More about the Book:

Images of America: Mountain View is an 128 page paperback book with 220 historic photos of Mountain View scanned from the archives of the Historical Association, the Public Library, and a variety of private individuals including local photographer Robert Weaver.

The book is divided into chapters that focus on the history of Mountain View by district (much like this web site) and concludes with a chapter devoted to the groups and celebrations which have brought the city's diverse residents together over the years.
