Lineup of FALL 2001 Courses for our Kickoff Semester:

Courses starting in September 2001 

  • Stop Paying Rent! - Homebuyer workshop & Credit Repair Clinic
    • Mondays 7-8 pm starting September 10th
    • Currently at Lisbon Avenue Neighborhood Development -LAND, 1952 N. 36th Street
    • Instructor: Mia Lott-Rogers
  • Handling Family Crises - Domestic Abuse, AODA, & Co-dependency Issues
    • Tuesdays 1-3 pm starting September 11th
    • At the Community Justice Center on 34th & Brown, 1953 N. 34th Street
    • Instructor: Linda Carter 
  • Starting a Business in Your Home - Use your talents to be your own boss
    • Wednesdays 5:00-6:30 pm starting September 12th
    • At the Community Justice Center on 34th & Brown, 1953 N. 34th Street
    • Instructor: Peter Kokh
  • Maneuvering Through the Health Care System - Focus: Lead Poisoning - Teaching families how to access the Health Care system and to identify emergency situations, and how to be their own health advocates with their doctors, with insurance companies, even with utility companies. This course sponsored by Westside Healthcare Association.

Fall 2001 Graduation Ceremony, December 3, 2001

The first group of Neighborhood College students to complete courses received Course Completion & Achievement Certificates at a special ceremony on Monday, December 3rd. The event was held at the Forest County Potawatomi Community Hall, NW corner of N. 33rd & W. North Avenue. This building, formerly Fred's Ornamental Doors, is at the East end of the new Metcalfe school / Boys & Girls Club complex.

The Neighborhood College Certificates earned by individuals come with UWM Continuing Education Credits from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee Outreach Dept. on the basis of one tenth credit per hour of class.

A buffet supper was provided, with catering by Jada Drew, Ollie Summers assisting. Jada, interested in pursuing a career in catering, was a graduate of the Neighborhood Home-Based Business Workshop.[photo of students, Jada in yellow, Ollie in white, 2nd row]
