I have been an avid Stern listener and HUGE Baba Booey fan since January 2, 1997. I know EVERYTHING about Baba Booey. I've called into the show and been on the air many times. I go by the name Nuggo when I am on the air with Howard. I haven't been on the air since Howard moved to Sirius. I guess it's alot harder to get on because they are still understaffed.
Biography
Gary Patrick Dell'Abate was born on March 14, 1961. He was raised in Nassau County. Gary attended Adelphi University and interned at local radio stations while still in college. He became the producer of the Howard Stern Show in the fall of 1984. His father was an ice cream salesman and his mother, Ellen, has a large collection of saint statues. Gary's brother, Tony, lives in Austin, Texas as a commercial Realtor. His other brother, Steve, died of AIDS in 1991. Gary originally was interning at WNBC to assist Roz Frank a traffic reporter. Howard took pity on Gary, who was mistreated by Roz. He was being paid less then $200 a week. Howard called him, "Boy" Gary (arguably a parody of "Boy" George). A couple years later Howard left for K-Rock and asked Gary to join him for about $520 a week. He gave him a job on the show which eventually grew to producer. Howard constantly makes fun of Gary's giant caps and bad breath. He makes it seem that Gary is inept and is always on the verge of firing him. He would force Gary to repeat things like "I am too stupid to be stupid" Gary reluctantly would do this in an obvious condescending tone calling Howard, "Boff." After Gary got married, he refused to repeat. Gary is best known as Baba-booey. He and his wife Mary Carachiolia, (Born on April, 1963), married on July 3rd 1992. Gary forgot to invite his boss Tom Chiusano to the wedding. In Sept., 1994, Gary and his wife moved from their upper west side of Manhattan apartment to a house in Greenwich Connecticut. Gary enjoys collecting original celluloid art of cartoon characters. Howard pokes fun at Gary's large caps, bad breath and ineptitude. Gary has two sons. Jackson Steven Dell'Abate, weighed in at 8 lbs. 2 ounces and was born at 4:20 p.m. on October 27, 1994. Their second sons name is Lucas Dell'Ababte.
Origin of Baba Booey
This is Howard Stern's beautiful older daughter, Emily Stern.
Gary started collecting animation cells, which are original cartoon drawings. On the air, Gary started talking about how he really wanted a animation cell of Quick-Draw McGraw's sidekick, "Baba Booey", ( the correct pronunciation is "Baba Looey"). Howard Stern didn't hear it the first time but Gary kept repeating that he REALLY wanted the "Baba Booey" cell. Howard then started calling Gary "Baba Booey" when he caught him with the mispronunciation. And that is how Gary got his nickname.
