Back in 1917, under the leadership of Mr. Dominic James "Nick" LaRocca, the ODJB recorded the very first ever jazz recording. This recording was a worldwide hit sensation which sold over one million copies before the end of that year outselling the first million seller of that time, Enrico Caruso, who was an opera tenor.
The ODJB is back once again led by Nick's son, Jimmy LaRocca, on trumpet and vocals. Jimmy has put together a band of the finest New Orleans musicians who understand and perform this style of music to perfection. The ODJB has performed for concerts and jazz festivals in Brazil, Japan, Sweden, Finland & the USA.
Jimmy LaRocca’s Original Dixieland Jazz Band has two CD’s available on Louisiana Red Hot Records with National and International distribution.
1) ODJB "80 Years Of Jazz" 1917 to 1997 - LRHR #1103 (Recorded October 5, 1996) - contains many jazz classics recorded by the first ODJB.
2) ODJB "Anniversary Of A Jazz Legend" - D.J. "Nick" LaRocca 1889-1999 - LRHR #1128 (Recorded July 26 & August 15, 1999) - contains songs written by Nick LaRocca that had never been recorded and original material by Jimmy LaRocca.
