By Daniel Webster
"The production brought together Benita Valente, Tatiana Troyanos, Kevin Langan, who had sung their roles in Santa Fe, N.M., with countertenor Jeffrey Gall. It placed them in a staging that re-created the fanceful sylvan settings and long persepctives that suspend reality - and time - in this kind of opera."
"Troyanos, in the trouser role of Ariodante, is a robust perfomrer, and she strode vigorously into the music, preserving baroque sensibilities and manner (she interpolated an aria from another piece to beef up her role) while filling the stage with her big, rich voice. She had a slower tempo in mind for her first aria, which caught Korn by surprise, but her vote was stronger and, in the context of the scene, right."
