Program Offerings


The mission of Don O’Neill Consulting is to obtain the deepest possible understanding of software engineering in all its dimensions, to arrive at a realistic expectation for its application at every level, and to disseminate this knowledge and expectation to producers and consumers.

To carry out this mission, Don O’Neill Consulting conducts a series of Program Offerings. These offerings address the knowledge, skills, and behaviors needed by senior management, project management, and practitioners.

The Primary Focus is the Software Inspections Process Roll Out Program.Software Inspections have been determined to to be the most beneficial of all software process improvements in reducing development costs, shortening delivery schedules, and increasing the trustworthiness of operational software in the field. The Software Inspections offering is backed up by the National Software Quality Experiment which packages software inspections data and sets the gauges for the Software Inspections Control Panel of metrics. The Global Software Competitiveness Program is an ambitious program being conducted on behalf of the Center for National Software Studies. Here the audience is the nation’s leaders and the general public.

Continuing Programs include the Strategic Software Management Program whose vision is to raise the ability of the organization to improve to a core competency by knowing what the customer needs most, aligning the best capability of the organization to provide that, understanding current practice, measuring its critical aspects, selecting the most promising changes, and planning for lasting improvement. To establish the infrastructure for improvement, the Project Suite Defined Program is the Software Engineering Process Group leadership training program. The Software Risk Management Course and Lab address the identification, confrontation, and resolution of software risks. To permit program managers and software engineers to operate as two sides of the same coin, the Software Engineering for Program Managers Course is conducted.

The Special Offerings round out the Don O’Neill Consulting Program Offerings. These include the SEI Capability Maturity Model:Executive Presentation for senior managers and the Tutorial and Workshop for practitioners. The Year 2000 Remediation Defined Program equips managers with the oversight ability needed. The Best Industry Practices for Software seminar is composed of two dozen lectures on software engineering conducted individually or collectively.
