Daniel Jackson pushed open the door to the break room and sighed. He rubbed his sore shoulder and groaned. All he wanted was a hot shower, some clean clothes, and a then find a corner to curl up and die in. But due to good old military efficiency and only one shower room, he had to wait. At least, there was coffee.
Rough mission didn't start to described their last trip through the Stargate. Three days of torture, misery, and really bad food. Yup, that would just about described it. Between trying to elude Heru'Ur's Horus goons constantly shooting at them, natives that were more interested in having them as dinner then to dinner, and MREs that were more reconstituted cardboard then anything else, oh yeah, wonderful time.
He grabbed cup off the counter and poured a cup of coffee. He sighed and rotated his arm with a frown. He should let Frazier take a look at it, but not until he finished the coffee. It could wait. He closed his eyes and one popped open. He looked behind him and groaned. The radio. Why was it the radio was always playing when he got in here? He contemplated turning it off and decide it would take too much energy so he just let it play.
(I do swear that I'll always be there I'd give anything and everything and I will always care Through weakness and strength, happiness and sorrow, for better, for worse I will love you with every beat of my heart)
"What's he saying, Jackson?"
Daniel gave the chieftain as friendly a smile as he could manage and said, "I have no idea."
The native chief snapped some order and waved to group of woman standing off to the one side. They stared over carrying what looked like jugs and bowls of some kind. Daniel's mind raced as he tried to make some sense out of what the man was saying.
One of the woman stopped in front of him and offered him a bowl. Daniel felt his breath catch. She was the most beautiful creature he had ever seen. Daniel stared at her and then realized she was staring back. The woman demurely dropped her eyes blushing.
"Thank you," Daniel said a bit breathlessly. He couldn't take his eyes off her.
From this moment life has begun From this moment you are the one Right beside you is where I belong From this moment on
"Thank you. Thank you very much," Daniel give the last of the washing ladies a gentle push. "Thank you, I smell much better now. Thank you."
The last of the women left laughing and giving him a wink. Daniel sat down with on the bed with a sign and gave himself an sniff and frowned. "Ahh, I smell like a yak!" He started to pull his socks back on and a quiet rustle of the door curtain made him look up. "Please, no more."
The woman stepped into the light and he saw it was the woman that had given him water at the mines. "Oh, it's you." Daniel laughed nervously. "I thought you were one of the...um...cleaning ladies." He mentally kicked himself. Why was he always sounded like an idiot when he got nervous? He tried to smile. The woman came to a stop in front of him and reach up, undoing the fastening on her dress. Daniel felt his jaw drop open as the dress started down.
Daniel was on his feet pulling the garment back in place. "No, please. You don't have to do this." The young woman began to protest. "Please, you don't have to." Daniel felt his face growing crimson. "I think," he swallowed trying to pull his thought back in order. "I think you'd better go."
Even in the dim light of the tent he could see the confused look on the woman's face. Daniel hustled her to the door. He should have seen this coming. This poor girl, he couldn't possibly. Daniel shove the curtain aside and started to go out.
Then he heard the started shout and looked up. The chieftain was out there. He dropped to his knees and the said something rapidly in his language. The girl answered him and he saw the upset look on everyone's faces and realized his mistake. By not accepting the girl, he was bring shame on her and the people of the village.
Daniel did some quick thinking and wrapped an arm around the girl "No, It's me...um..I just wanted to say, 'thank you.' I'm very happy." He gave the girl's shoulders a good squeeze and smile. "So, thank you."
He pulled them both back in the tent and let go of her. He started berating himself. That was so stupid. What was he thinking? He looked over at her again and she had started loosening her grip on the dress. "No, please." Daniel said quickly. He sat her down on the bed and crouched down in front of her.
He thought for a moment and then started to pointed at himself. Kathryn's udjet bumped his hand and he tucked it under his shirt. He pointed at himself and said, "Daniel."
She looked at him and frowned. Daniel pointed at himself again. "Daniel."
She pointed at herself and said, "Dany-el."
Daniel smiled and shook his head. "No." He pointed at himself again and said, "I'm Daniel."
She nodded. She paused a moment, "Sha're."
"Sha're," he repeated trying to get the accent right. She smiled tentatively at him.
"We came from..um..you don't know what I'm saying do you?" Daniel shook his head. Sha're cocked her head and smiled at him Daniel reached down and started drawing in the sand at their feet. "We came from the..uh..pyramid." He sketched the pyramid and then motioned someone walking down. Sha're looked away quickly. "Yeah, not allowed." He stood. "It's alright. Really, it's ok." He walked over to the far side of the room trying to figure out what to do next.
He turned back and Sha're had drawn something in the sand. Instantly, he recognized it. "Earth." He dropped down beside her. "You know this symbol?" He motioned down at it again. "You've seen this symbol?"
Sha're nodded and pointed down at it.
Daniel held at his hand to her. "Show me." She took his hand. "Show me."
From this moment I have been blessed I live only for your happiness And for your love I'd give my last breath From this moment on
O'Neill and his men had started out into the desert. The rosy glow of dawn was just creeping into the sky. Daniel didn't want to go. For once in his life, he had found someplace he felt he could belong. If it was just with this incredible woman.
"Jackson, come on," O'Neill snapped.
Daniel glance back. Sha're stood outside the city watching him go. Her shawl was pulled over her head, but he could see her face. He tried to memorize every line in the dusky light of morning, this was going to have to last him. He turned following the retreating line of solders, knowing he would regret it, but what could he do?
I give my hand to you with all my heart Can't wait to live my life with you, can't wait to start You and I will never be apart My dreams came true because of you From this moment as long as I live I will love you, I promise you this There is nothing I wouldn't give From this moment on
"What?" Daniel looked up from the cooking fire.
Nabeh laughed and elbowed one of the other boys.
"What?" Daniel wondered what is was that was so fun.
"Husbands do not do that kind of work," the boy laughed.
Husbands? Daniel looked around and saw Sha're watching him, the look on her face somewhere between embarrassment and shame. Daniel's mind whirled as things started to fall into place. He got up and followed her.
He found her setting a grinding stone using a large stone to grind the grain into flour. She looked up briefly as he sad down beside her.
"Husband?" he asked, trying to get her to look at him.
Sha're glanced up and then quicky went back to her work. "Do not be angry with me, I did not tell them."
Daniel was truly confused now. "Tell them what?"
Sha're looked at him. "That you did," she paused, looking away quicky, "That you did not want me."
Daniel could see the hurt and shame in her eyes. Hurt he had cause with by his ignorance. No want her? How could he not? He had wanted her since the moment he had first seen her when she had given him the water. He reached up and cup her face in his hand. She looked startled but didn't pull away. He pulled her closer and kissed her.
You're the reason I believe in love And you're the answer to my prayers from up above All we need is just the two of us My dreams came true because of you From this moment as long as I live I will love you, I promise you this There is nothing I wouldn't give From this moment
Daniel gripped her hand and they followed Jack out of the pyramid. A sudden flash of white exploded in the sky over their heads. Daniel felt the tension in his shoulders ease, it was over. It was finally over. He glanced over at Sha're. She smiled back at him triumphantly. Well, maybe not everything.
Their eyes locked and he pulled her towards him. She leaned her face up and their lips met and everything else just disappeared.
I will love you as long as I live From this moment on
"Hey, you still in here, Jackson?"
Daniel opened his eyes and Jack stood in the doorway to the break room.
Jack shook his head. "I thought I would find you in here getting coffee. Come on, Cater's out of the shower and it's our turn."
Daniel turned and set the coffee cup down. He glanced at the radio and shook his head.
"Daniel, you ok?" Jack let the door shut behind him.
Daniel smiled. "Yeah, I'm fine." He rubbed his shoulder and winced. "Except for the shoulder."
Jack clapped him on the back. "You should get Frazier to look at that."
"I will, after the shower."
Jack's eyes narrowed. "You sure your ok?"
Daniel nodded. "Yeah, I'm sure."
