"Who will it be?" Hathor said. Her gaze traveled over Daniel, Sam, and rested on Jack. "Perhaps you, O'Neill. The leader of your people." Jack glared at her, his dark eyes flashing in defiance. A small smile turned up the corners of Hathor's mouth. Then she looked to Sam. "Or, perhaps you, Samantha Carter. You already have Naquada in your blood. You would make a fine host to this Child." Sam suppressed a shudder, but kept the gaze with the Goa'uld. Then Hathor turned to face Daniel. "Or, perhaps you our beloved. We once promised to make you our new Pharaoh." Daniel's face paled at her words. "Yes, that would please us."

"Oh, I don't think so," Jack said, belligerently. "But thanks just the same."

Hathor chuckled. She had expected that reaction from him. How predictable. "We will give you time to decide who it will be," she said and turned her back to them, leaving the room. Several of the Jaffa followed her, but Raleigh and a few of the others remained.

Jack turned to Sam and Daniel and motioned up farther on the ramp. "Well, this sucks," Jack said in a low voice. "There is no way I'm going to let that...woman turn one of us into a Goa'uld."

"There's got be someway out of here," Sam said looking around the mock up of the gate room.

"Wherever here is," Jack said with a frown. Then he looked at Daniel, who had been strangely quiet ever since Hathor had showed up. "You ok?"

"Me," Daniel said with finality.

"Excuse me?" Jack said, with an incredulous look.

Daniel licked his lips nervously. "It should be me. It would give you and Sam a chance to get out of here. Hathor obviously still has a 'thing' for me. That whole 'beloved' bit." Daniel suddenly winced, his eyes squeezing shut. Jack grabbed him as he swayed slightly.

"Daniel?" Jack tightened his grip on the younger man's arm.

His eyes snapped open and his blinked a few times rapidly, pulling the room back into focus. He saw the concern on their faces and looked away self-conscious. "Sorry, one of those memory flash things. Not a particularly pleasant one, about Hathor." He cleared his throat and continued. "Like I was saying. If I give myself up to her, it will buy you and Sam time."

"That's a stupid plan," Jack shot back, concern still lurking in his dark eyes.

"Daniel, you can't do that," Sam exclaimed. "Even if you give yourself over to her, there's no guarantee she won't just kill us.

"Do you have a better plan?" Daniel glared at Jack, his voice tight with frustration.

Jack stared at him a moment. "I'm working on it, but no one is turning themselves over." Jack gave Daniel a sharp look. "Got it?" Daniel nodded. "Good," Jack said. He sighed and scrubbed his hands though his hair.

Suddenly, the door opened into the corridor and Hathor entered. She walked to the bottom of the ramp and faced them. "Have you decided who among you will become a god?"

Jack took a step forward. "Actually, yes." He glanced over at Sam and Daniel. Daniel had unconsciously slipped behind Sam. Jack turned back to Hathor. "Nobody."

Hathor gave a very unlady-like snort. "We had known you would answer so." She motioned to her Jaffa. "Take him," she said pointing at Daniel.

"No!" Daniel said, backing up the ramp. Jack and Sam tried to block the Jaffa's way, but they were quickly overpowered. Two of the Jaffa hurried up the ramp and grabbed Daniel by his arms. They dragged him down to face Hathor. Jack struggled trying to break free of the Jaffa holding him, but they kept a tight grip on his arms, pinning him in place.

Hathor walked around Daniel as he tried to free himself from the Jaffa holding him. She smiled and came to a stop facing him. She reached out and caressed his cheek. "Soon, our beloved, you will receive your Goa'uld and become our new pharaoh. You will reign by our side for all eternity."

"Never," Daniel struggled against the Jaffa, panic and defiance shining bright in his blue eyes. He jerked away from her caress.

A small smiled curved Hathor's mouth. She raised her hand, Daniel's eyes grew round when he saw the ribbon device. A brilliant light filled his eyes as Hathor brought it closer to his face, the jewel at the center glowing ominously. His head lulled back and his knees crumpled as consciousness fled.

"Daniel!" Jack and Sam shouted struggling against the Jaffa that held them.

Hathor smirked and looked over at Trofsky. "Take them to the holding cells. We shall decide their fate later." She motioned to the Jaffa holding Daniel's limp form and headed out the door. The Jaffa followed dragging Daniel's limp form between them.

The Jaffa quickly bound Jack and Sam's hands behind their backs. Trofsky pointed his Zat gun at them, "Move." Jack glared at him a moment before shrugging off the hands of the Jaffa holding him. Trofsky motioned for them to lead. They walked down the corridor and out of the mock up of the SGC into one of the Goa'uld sections of the complex.

Suddenly, Trofsky turned on the Jaffa firing with the Zat gun. Guards dropped all around Jack and Sam, except a few of the Serpent guards. The Serpent guards took up position in the corridors. Trofsky quickly undid the bindings holding Jack's hands.

In a flash, Jack had Trofsky pinned up against the wall his arm at the man's throat. Trofsky choked against the pressure of Jack's arm.

"Who are you?" Jack demanded through gritted teeth.

"A..fr...friend," Trofsky wheezed. One of the Jaffa took a step forward, but Trofsky waved him off. "Help you," he managed to choke out, looking between Jack and Sam.

"Help us?" Jack shot back, askance. "What do you mean help us? By interrogating us?"

The man struggled to answer, but his face had turned an ominous shade of purple.

"Sir!" Sam shouted, trying to get Jack's attention. Jack whipped his head around to look at her. She flinched at the rage in his eyes. "Sir," she said in a softer voice. "He can't answer you if he can't breath."

Jack looked back at the man's darkening face and abruptly backed off. Trofsky coughed and sagged against the wall. He gulped great lung-fulls of air struggling to get his breath. Jack glared at him and Trosky managed to get his breathing back under control.

"Colonel O'Neill. You may not believe this, but I was sent here to attempt to rescue you and your team," he said in a horse voice.

"Really," Jack said, crossing his arms belligerently.

Trofsky nodded. "My name is Varon."

Sam's eyes widened. "He's a Goa'uld, sir."

"Tok'Ra," Varon corrected. "Selmac and the Tok'ra counsel sent others and myself shortly after our operatives here found you had been captured by Hathor."

Jack stared at Varon, distrust shining in his eyes. "And I'm just supposed to believe this?"

Varon gave him a wry smile. "Selmac knew you would be suspicious, so he sent along a message for Captain Carter." He turned to look at Sam. "I was to remind you of the gift your father gave you for you 16th birthday. A small diamond pendant on a gold chain. It be a star you could touch until you could travel out and touch the real thing."

Sam stared at him for a moment and then quickly she looked to Jack. "He's right. That's what my dad gave me for my 16th birthday."

"OK, just assuming for the moment that you are who you say you are, why wait to help us until now?" Jack asked.

Varon seemed to squirm under Jack's scrutiny. "This was the first time Hathor was sufficiently distracted to attempt it. She had been keeping a close eye on your interrogations." One of the Jaffa motioned to him. "We must go," he said motioning for them to follow him.

"Wait a minute," Jack said snagging his arm. "What about Daniel?"

Varon frowned. "It's too late for him."

Jack's face hardened. "What do you mean, 'it's too late for him'?"

"Hathor has no doubt is having him prepared to be implanted with the Goa'uld by now."

"Then we'll unprepare him," Jack snapped.

Varon shook his head. "No matter how quickly we move, we will be to late to prevent it."

Sam bit her lower lip. "The Tok'Ra have ways to remove them, don't they?"

Varon nodded slowly, "We do," he said hesitantly. "But it is dangerous. The Goa'uld will not leave him willingly. He could die."

"He'd rather die," Jack said quietly.

"Very well," Varon said finally. "But we must act quickly."

One of the serpent guards appeared from the corridor. Veron headed over to him with Jack and Sam in tow.

"We have found him," said very familiar voice. The Jaffa reached up and deactivated his helmet.

"Bra'tak?" Jack stared at the Jaffa. "You old goat, what are you doing here?"

"Oneill, I would say it was a pleasure if the circumstances were not as they are." The Jaffa gripped Jack's out stretched arm.

"Bra'tak, you said you found him," Sam interrupted. "Daniel?"

Bra'tak's face grew somber as he nodded. "I fear it is too late for Daniel Jackson. Hathor has already begun the ceremony of implantation."

Sam let out a tiny sob and Jack sagged against the wall. Sam looked at him, her blue eyes wide in comprehension. From her own memories, she remembered how painful that was. The helpless as the alien mind took over your body, forcing the conscious part of your into some small dark corner of your mind. Forced to watch, but to have no control over your body, as another will used you to do whatever it wanted. Say whatever it wanted. Your mind held hostage to a body that was no longer your own.

Sam knew that horror, but she could only imagine how much worse it would be Daniel. When Jolinar had borrowed her body, Sam could remember the Tok'Ra's gentle reassurances that all would well, but to endure that helplessness of your body no longer being your own and the constant torment of a hostile mind. It was inconceivable.

'He's telling you the truth! Please! Jack, please! Jack, don't leave me like this! Please! Don't leave me! Jack!"

She felt strong arms wrap around her and she realized she was crying. Hot tears spilled down her face and sobs shook her shoulders. She felt a gentle hand rub her back and a hushed voice mutter reassuring words. She sniffed and struggled to pull herself together. She looked up to see the Colonel's concerned face looking down at her. She took a shuddering breath and stepped away untangling herself from his protective arms.

Sam sniffed and rubbed her nose with the back of her hand. "Sorry," she looked down. She rubbed the neural probe still attached to her temple. "Memory flash back," she shrugged. "Memory of Jolinar."

"S'kay," Jack said and squeezed her shoulder. "We'll find him," he said, his voice showing more confidence than his eyes. "We better get a move on."

Sam nodded. She looked around and saw Varon and Bra'tak waiting on them a little farther down the corridor. "Yes, sir."

Jack nodded and motioned for her to lead. "We'll find him." She heard Jack say again as she walked by him. 'But who will we find when we do?' she wondered.

Daniel felt rough hands lay him down on a cold metal table. The cold chill of the table sent a shiver though him. Somewhere along the line, his shirt had been stripped off him, but just where, he couldn't remember. He tried to force his eyes open, but nothing would budge. What was going on? Why couldn't he move? Panic bubble up into his throat threatening to strangle him. He swallowed trying to focus on the voices around him. They seemed to be waiting for someone. Fear's cold hand gripped his stomach. Hathor. They were waiting for Hathor...and the Goa'uld.

He tried to will his leaden limbs to move, but the strange paralysis the ribbon device has caused, bound him to the table as surely as chains. 'Was this what it was like for Sha're,' Daniel wondered. 'Did she know what they going to do to her and know there wasn't thing she could do about it?' He failed her. He failed Jack and Sam and Teal'c. Hammond. Earth. How many more would he betray before...STOP! Daniel ordered himself. He was beginning to drift. If he was going to have any chance, he had to focus. He wasn't going to let the Goa'uld take him without a fight.

He heard the door hiss open and the soft tread of feet. They came to a stop beside him and he felt the gentle brush of a woman's fingertips as they caressed his bare back. Her touch brought goose bumps to his exposed flesh. "Our beloved, the time has come," a now familiar, hated voice whispered sensually into his ear.

Daniel longed to tell her where she could go, but his mouth refused to work. He felt another presence close beside him. Then, he felt a wet, warm pressure against the small of his back. A wave of nausea swept over him as felt it slowly inching up his spine.

'Jack, this would be a great time to show up,' he thought distractedly. The Goa'uld coiled between his shoulder blades and Daniel took a deep breath trying to brace himself for what he knew was coming.

Suddenly, the Goa'uld stuck. Agony worse than anything he could have ever imagined tore through him staining his world red. A raw scream of anguish ripped from him as the Goa'uld burrowed deeper into his neck.

The battle had begun. The battle for his very soul.

Varon and Bra'tak lead the small group through Hathor's base. He motioned for Jack and Sam to slip into one the of the recesses moments before a group of Horus and Serpent guards marched toward them from the opposite direction. The guards marched by not even sparing the Tok'Ra and Jaffa a look.

Suddenly, a gut wrenching scream echoed through the vast chamber. Sam gripped Jack's arm, her fingers digging into him. "No," she breathed.

Fire.

Smoke.

Heat.

"Jack! Help me!"

Jack sagged against the wall. Tears blurred his eyes. He would kill her. That Goa'uld witch would regret the day she met Jack O'Neill.

Hathor smiled and looked down at the still form lying before her. How wonderful. The implantation was a success. Soon her Beloved would awaken and take his place at her side. With his knowledge and her troops, they would soon show the System Lords she was a force to reckon with.

Soon, she thought trailing a hand down his muscular chest. Soon.

Jack glared out in the corridor from his hiding place. He heard the swish of a door and pulled back farther into the recess. A combination of Horus and Serpent Guards marched past them. Suddenly, his blood started to boil. Hathor. She followed the guards. He looked back to where she had come from. That must be where they were holding Daniel.

Varon waited a few more moments and then motioned them forward. He strode purposefully up to the two Horus guards at the door and then suddenly shot them with his zat gun. In a rapid succession of flashes, they were gone

"We must hurry," Varon said, keying the door. Jack and Sam rushed into the room and Bra'tak and a few of the other guards stood guard outside.

The first thing that hit Jack was how empty the room was, and then he saw him. Daniel lay on his back on a long metal table set into the center of the room, naked from the waist up.

He hurried over and laid his hand on the younger man's shoulder. "Daniel? Come on, Danny boy. You still in there?" He reached down to check for a pulse.

Suddenly, Daniel's eyes snapped open. In a flash, he had his hand wrapped around Jack throat. His eyes blazed in the brilliant white of Goa'uld possession. "Tau'Re. You are a fool to come here."

Jack grabbed at the hand, shocked by the inhuman strength that held him. He choked as the vice like hold tightened even farther. Black shaped danced on the edge of his vision as his lungs burned from lack of oxygen. He stared into the face of a man he had considered his friend and only saw a stranger staring back.

"Colonel!" Sam shouted, rushing over. "Daniel! Don't! Fight this, Daniel!"

Daniel glared at her. "Your friend can not hear you. He is too weak. His fear is too great." The thing that had been Daniel swung his legs over the side of the table and lifted Jack off the floor with one hand. A cruel smiled twisted his lip.

Jack tried to twist free from his grip, but everything had started to turn fuzzy. Suddenly, the grip loosened and he crumpled to the ground. Dragging in great lung-full of air, the room started to pull back into focus. He heard an anguished moan and looked up.

Daniel slumped beside the table his head gripped in his hands. He looked up at Jack and he could see the pain and fear etched into the blue depth. "Kill me, Jack," Daniel pleaded in a tortured moan. "Please, kill me before I kill one of you."

Suddenly, Daniel's eyes lit up and what control he has managed for a moment was gone. Jack backed away as the Goa'uld stood. "Who are you?" Jack managed.

A look of contempt passed over his face. Something flashed though Jack's mind.

"You never give me any respect, Jack."

Jack blinked back the memory. He glanced over at Carter. She and Varon had slipped behind him. Jack tried again. "Who are you?"

The Goa'uld crossed him arms and stared at him condescendingly. "I am Khorem. You will bow before your god and beg for you life, Tau'ri!"

Jack saw Varon and Sam were in position behind Daniel. He gave Varon a barely perceptible nod and focused back on Khorem. "I don't think so, Bucko," he quipped.

Suddenly, Khorem realized someone was behind him and started to turn. Varon fired and Khorem's back arched in and a strangled moan escaped him as he collapsed to the floor.

Jack hurried over; his fingers on the younger man's throat searching for a pulse. Blue eyes struggled open. "Ja'k." Pain etched deep lines into Daniel's face.

"Yeah, Danny," Jack said gently, sitting him up.

Daniel leaned against him heavily. "Sorry," he whispered, his eyes squeezed tight in pain. Jack knew he was trying to fight the alien trying to control him. "Jack," Daniel gripped the front of Jack's shirt. "Don't let me hurt somebody."

Jack bit his lip. "I won't, Daniel. I promise." Varon pushed a pair of restraints into his hand. "Daniel, I'm going to put these on you, alright?" Jack snapped the restraints on to Daniel's hands, locking them behind the younger man's back.

"Kay," Daniel whispered. Jack could tell he was losing the fight to keep Khorum under control. Pain and concentration creased Daniel's pale face. "Can't control him...Ja'k....trying." Daniel cried out in pain pressing his face into Jack's shoulder. "Sorry," came a muffled sob.

Suddenly, Daniel jerked away, his eyes blazing. "Fool!! Jaffa!!" he started to yell.

"Sorry, Daniel," Jack said, belting the younger man in the chin. Daniel slumped back into unconsciousness.

Jack heard the sound of ripping behind him and turned. Sam had one of the silver blankets and was ripping off the edge. She handed him and strip with an apologetic look. "For a gag."

Jack nodded and used it to gag Daniel. The last thing they need was him yelling for Jaffa or Hathor. Jack looked down at his friend inert form and memories flooded back through him.

"Jack, I want you to promise me that if this doesn't work. The General will give the order. I want to wake up as me or not as all."

"Come on, Kawalski. Don't talk like that."

"Sir?"

Jack looked up at Sam. He shook his head. "Just remembering Kawalski," he said roughly. She nodded and gripped his arm supportively. He cleared his throat. "We better get moving."

Varon helped him get Daniel on his feet and Jack slung the younger man over his shoulder.

"This way," Varon said, leading back to the doorway.

Bra'tak and his men stood outside. He gave Jack a questioning look when he saw Daniel bound and slung over his shoulder. Jack shook his head and Bra'tak nodded slowly. He understood. They had to get out of here and let the Tok'Ra have a crack at getting this 'thing' out of Daniel's head.

They hadn't gone more than ten feet when suddenly a voice called out from behind them. "Jaffa, kree!"

"I am really starting to hate that woman," Jack muttered under his breath as he spotted Hathor and a pack of her Jaffa racing down the corridor towards them. "Varon, I hope you have a way out of here."

"This way," the Tok'ra said. Leading them into another corridor. "It is not very far to the teleportation rings. Our ship is waiting for us in orbit."

"We're on a planet?" Sam asked quickly.

"That is correct. This is Hathor's main planet of power. You were brought here in stasis from place you were captured," Varon explained.

"What about Teal'c?" Jack asked breathlessly. All this running was starting to catch up with him and Daniel weighted a lot more than his slight build showed.

The Tok'Ra frowned. "I know very little of your Jaffa friend. He was not brought with you. I have heard rumors that he was found by your people, but of this I am uncertain."

"I hope so," Sam said quietly. She glanced at Jack. "You ok, sir?"

Jack nodded. "Danny's...just a lot...heavier than...he looks."

"This way." Varon motioned for them to follow them down a narrow passageway.

Suddenly, an energy blast whined over Jack head. Instinctively, he ducked, but Daniel's added weight knocked him off balance and he would have fallen if Sam hadn't grabbed him. Another blast scored the wall where he had just been moments before.

"Stop!" They heard Hathor yell. "You will harm our new pharaoh. We want them taken alive that we may enjoy the pleasure of watching them suffer."

"Nice lady," Jack snipped sarcastically, as they took off on a run again.

"Quickly," Varon hissed. He shoved Sam forward and then grabbed Jack elbow steering him into an alcove.

They ducked inside and the door shut just as Hathor's guard ran by. They held their breath as the metal shod feet marched past. Jack let his breath hiss between his teeth as they moved on, not even pausing outside the door.

"I'm getting too old for this," he growled under his breath. Suddenly, Daniel lurched on his shoulder, slipping out of his grasp to land on the floor with a disgruntled thud. The younger man managed to roll on to his back, his eye blazing golden. Jack shook his head. "Way too old."

Daniel struggled against the binding that held his wrist behind his back. Jack was thankful that Sam had thought of a gag as the Daniel...no...Khorem. 'Got to remember it's not Daniel,' Jack thought. Just like Skaara and Sha're. Just like Skaara.

"Let me talk to him."

"He does not wish to talk to you. He is too afraid. He enjoys my protection."

"Yeah, right. Let me talk to him."

"Colonel?"

Jack looked up to see Sam's concerned face peering down at him. "You ok, sir?"

After a moment, Jack nodded. "Yeah, one of those memory things." He looked around. "Where's.." Then he saw Varon had a hold of Khorem. "Good, you got him."

Sam helped him to his feet. Jack turned to the Tok'ra. "What now?"

"We must get to the teleportation ring. From there, we will be able to reach my ship."

Khorem snarled something a surged against Varon's grip. The Tok'ra frowned. "It would be wise to leave him. We are taking a terrible risk taking him with us. Hathor's desire for this one is greater than any I have ever seen in a Goa'uld."

"Yeah," Jack said. "But we are not leaving him here. If the Tok'ra have a way to get that *thing* out of his head. He deserves at least that much." Jack looked it to the eyes of the man he had trusted...his friend and the hate and revulsion he saw looking back at him held no recognizable trace of him. A cold shudder past through Jack. Evil, pure evil stared back at him out of Daniel's wide blue eyes.

"Something of the host survives," Sam said quietly.

"Yeah," Jack answered back softly. "It has to."

"It does," Sam said with a certainty that Jack couldn't muster at that moment. "I know, sir. It does."
