History

On September 8, 1973, in Atlanta, Georgia, a group of Peruvian physicians of the class of 1954, the "PROMOCION JUAN WERNER" met and founded the Peruvian American Medical Society (PAMS), with the purpose of uniting all Peruvian physicians to improve the medical education and cultural relations between Peru and the United States.

MEDICAL MISSIONS TO PERU

PAMS, a philanthropic organization has carried out so far, eight "Medical
Missions" to Peru. These efforts combine the good will and money of many
people: American and Peruvian physicians, nurses, pharmacists, administrative and
clerical personel, composed of high school, college students and people of all ages
and walks of life. Every medical specialty is welcome and badly needed. A portable
mini hospital is prepared to be taken to a city or area in Peru, to provide medical-surgical care for children and adults in all fields. These medical missions have proven to be very beneficial, highly fullfiling to the volunteers and have energized the Society to continue these efforts.
The first mission took place in Cusco in 1994 under the direction of EfrainMontesinos the pioneer of these missions, separate from the Annual Convention..

The third, in Trujillo in 1995. Director: Hector Bustamante
The fourth, in Cusco in 1996. Director: Victor V. Rozas
The fifth, in Iquitos in 1996. Director: Alberto Otero
The sixth in Ayacucho in 1996. Director: Efrain Montesinos
The seventh in Lima, April 1996 (Hospital del Niņo). Director: Efrain
Montesinos
The eighth, in Huanuco (Operation Condor) September 1996. Director: Efrain
Montesinos

Part of the funds needed to help the needy come through PAMSEF ("Peruvian

American Medical Society Endowment Fund") the charitable arm of PAMS (see

below) which allows tax deductible donations.
