TOMORROW STORIES REVIEW
TOMORROW STORIES-A REVIEW
Looking for an anthology series that delivers all the fun, excitement and mystery of the old days?
Well, here it is! TOMORROW STORIES. From America's Best Comics division of Wildstorm comes this wild ride courtesy of the amazing Alan Moore. Each jam packed issue contains four stories written by Moore with the artwork of a host of different illustrators.
Issue #1 begins with the adventures of Jack B. Quick, boy inventor. Illustrated by Kevin Nowlan, it tells about the smartest boy in Queerwater Creek. This kid in overalls works with quantum physics, breaks the time barrier and has invented the quantum vacuum cleaner. he accidentally creates a solar system in Queerwater Creek and proceeds to name the planets, ranging from Shemp, to Curly to Gloria to Bob. This causes a little bit of a problem for daily life in town but, a black hole solves that; especially when the Quick's cow ends up plugging the hole. Now the only problem? Finding out if the cow will give X-Ray milk.
Don't take any of this stuff seriously folks. It's Moore at his wittiest!
GREYSHIRT is next. With Rick Veitch' maniacal illustrations leading the way, it tells the tale of teacher Wally Flunt who ends up in the wrong place at the wrong time and does some wrong things along the way.
Then there's THE FIRST AMERICAN and U.S. ANGEL. This star-spangled superhero team bursts into action courtesy of Moore and Jim Baike. What happens when our genetically altered superheroes end up on an episode of the Jury Swinger Show? Can you say intergalactic planetary insanity?
Moore uncorks with this one, featuring such classic episode titles as I WANT TO ENSLAVE EARTH, BUT SOME GUY IN TIGHTS WON'T LET ME and MY MOM-IN-LAW SNUBS ME BECAUSE I'M A CANNIBAL. And don't forget that classic end line-"Armageddon another drink!"
Rim shot, PLEASE!
Issue #1 finishes up with a tale of the COBWEB by Moore and Melina Gebbie. Laurel Laekeland slips into the guise of her alter ego and fights crime in Doll-O-Vision. What starts by investigating the strange catatonic state of Ivana Mantabilk(say it slowly now-"I want a man to bilk"), she ends up being turned into a doll by a Puppetron beam. She and the other victims, like Sherley Knott-Seryus(surely, you're not serious!) fight back against the evil Dr. Phallocrates Phlange, turning him into a living breathing Yez dispenser. OUCH! What that must do to your head!
Issue two fires right back, opens with another GREYSHIRT adventure which covers 60 years in a unique four panel per page storytelling technique. Read it page by page and then go back and read it year by year. Revenge is sweet, especially when it takes a lifetime to achieve.
Jack B. Quick is up to no good again. this time it's a problem with a stray photon, causing havoc on Queerwater Creek. All is better when the photons promise to observe the 30 mile per hour speed limit and submit to urine tests!
THE COBWEB goes into space for a very erotic and hallucenegic experience. Short, sweet and very mind blowing.
And THE FIRST AMERICAN rounds out issue #2 with time traveling adventure against Dozier D. Daze. get out your bobby sox and lawn jockeys, this evil retrosexual is out to change the world.
As you can see, Moore has cranked up the humor machine at the house and let it flow freely. This series is a hoot and a hollar and contains some of the best inside jokes in recent years. Read the book twice so you can, much like Pokeman, catch 'em all! The artwork is unique to each character, thus making the whole anthology thing work perfectly.
Moore is back in rare form and this is just another example of his genius!.
