Introduction

The Avon Valley Path was the idea of a group of walkers from the Ringwood and Fordingbridge Footpath Society and is a walk which totals 34 miles from Salisbury Cathedral in Wiltshire to Christchurch Priory in Dorset.

Some very fit and keen walkers could possibly do the whole 34 miles in one day, personally I'm not up to that sort of daily mileage! Or another idea is to do it in 2 days with a overnight stop in a B&B or Hotel at say, Fordingbridge or Ringwood. Personally, I preferred to do it over three days. Salisbury to Downton (8 miles), Downton to Ibsley (11 miles) and then finally Ibsley to Christchurch (15 miles).

For those of us that would prefer to take our time to enjoy this beautiful rambling countryside, the route has been broken down into 7 shorter walks that will make the whole experience a lot more enjoyable.

They are as follows;

Salisbury to Odstock

4 Miles

Odstock to Downton

4 Miles
Downton to Fordingbridge 7 Miles
Fordingbridge to Ibsley Bridge 4 Miles
Ibsley Bridge to Ringwood 5 Miles
Ringwood to Sopley 6.5 Miles
Sopley to Christchurch 3.5 Miles

34 Miles
