It's important for our children to know that not all gifts of value come with a price tag. Contributions of our time and/or abilities, being a peacemaker, taking time out for someone who needs a friend, and helping those in need are all gifts beyond value and are the kinds of things that God wants us to do.
A Chain of Love is a paper chain put together just like any ordinary paper chain, but it's much more than the ordinary kind. It is built over a specified period of time and each link in the chain contains a personalized note telling of an unselfish act that was done. When the chain is complete and has grown from one tiny link to a chain of great length, it is easy to see how each simple act of kindness is an important link in spreading peace and goodwill among men.
Building Your Chain of Love
Designate the time period for building your chain, ie. from Thanksgiving to Christmas, the 12 days before Christmas, or December 1 through December 25.
Cut several 2 in. x 8 in. strips of red and green construction paper or cardstock (or use the colors of your choice).
Distribute several red & green strips to each person in your group and ask everyone to write down one act of kindness that they recently did for someone on one of their strips. Once they have written their note, have them roll their strip with the message side in to form a link and staple the ends together. This is their starting link that they will add to during the week as they do things out of kindness for others. Direct them to connect their chains alternating the colors. Be sure to explain that this isn't a race or competition to add the most links as these should be acts of kindness that come from the heart as opportunities present themselves.
Encourage the participants to ask God at the beginning of each day to open their eyes to those in need and no doubt, before long their own personal Chain of Love will grow ever larger. Once a week have each person bring in their connected chain links, and connect all of them together to form one large chain. Then find a place to display your chain as it is being built, perhaps on a Christmas Tree, or around the ceiling of a room or down a long hall. Do this each week through Christmas.

Below is a beautiful Christian online movie and sound track that I wanted to share with you this Christmas. It will take a few minutes to go through, but I think you'll find it worth your time. It's one of the most awesome sites of it's kind.
