BEIJING, July 30 (Reuter) - China plans to export 10 million copies of books annually by 2000 and open more Chinese bookstores abroad to meet growing international demand for Chinese publications, the Xinhua news agency said on Tuesday.

China has more than 30 book exporters which sell more than five million copies every year, with annual growth averaging 15-20 percent, Xinhua said.

Publishing officials attributed the projected rise in demand to China's increasing influence in world affairs and closer cultural ties between the mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

The China Book Export Working Committee called on publishers to improve printing quality and proposed that state authorities supervise the book trade more closely and support Chinese bookstores overseas, Xinhua said.
