A NEW PATHWAY
When we first came to East Bank High, we had to learn a new path-way
All the new names, and rooms in just a few days
Our school halls we have walked through for three years
Where we have shared many things together from laughter to tears
It is near the time where we seniors will have to part
From there we will make a new beginning, a new start
We will not forget all of our times we have shared here
When we first arrived as sophomores, we all had fears
But the fear soon left, and we knew where we stood
As we reached as far as we possibly could
We never thought time would take us to the top
But suddenly we found out that it would soon stop
As time passed by, we were all ready to leave
Not forgetting anything we had learned and achieved
We were all ready to take that big step with tender loving care
When we finally realized that it was time for us to share
Everyone had bad times, and we never thought they would mend
Somehow they all happened to come out just right in the end
So now it is time for us all to part from Old East Bank High
To cherish and dream of all those memories we are leaving behind
Everyone will now think that this is the end, and we will no longer be here another day
But when they do, just remember, this is the beginning of a new path-way!

Who is the Spirit?

Who is the Spirit? I was born in 1912 as Cabin Creek District High School and have faithfully served the patrons of the Cabin Creek area for eighty six years. I have come to salute the graduating class of 1999, and share with them the wonderful memories of my life until now. My first graduating class consisted of three members in 1915. There were four teachers to instruct thirty five students. My how I have grown! The present graduating class consists of 127 classmates graduating in 1999. In my middle age, in 1956, I am bulging at my seams with a faculty of 34 members and an enrollment of 1,009 students. My heart swells with pride when I think of my graduates who have distinguished themselves in all phases of life throughout the world. Who is the Spirit? On each page of your year book, you will find recorded some memories of my past life, which I wish to share with you. Though the events of my past have been inspiring and rewarding, I look forward with faith, hope, and trust in the men and women I shall meet in the future.
It is with great pleasure that I dedicate my memories to the last graduating class of East Bank High School 1999. Who is the Spirit? I am the one who wore the Blue and White. I am the one who cheered at all the sporting events and burst with pride when we won our state championships. I am the doctor, the coal miner, the lawyer, the homemaker. I am the one who walked the halls at the old school and the new. I am the one who holds his head high when called a Pioneer. Who is the Spirit? Look in the mirror, the Spirit is YOU!
From the 1956 Kanawhan. Edited by Junior Coley, Class of 1965 and Steve Veazey, Class of 1971
I WAS EAST BANK HIGH SCHOOL

I WAS NOT JUST A SCHOOL BUILDING SITTING BY THE RIVER
I WAS THE HOME OF MANY PEOPLE, MEMORIES, AND PROMISES
I DID NOT HAVE JUST ROOMS, HALLWAYS, AND STEPS
I HAD LOVE, HOPE, AND DREAMS WITHIN
I HAD BEEN MODEST IN VICTORY, COURAGEOUS IN DEFEAT
I HAD REJOICED OVER THE VICTORIES AND SHED TEARS OVER THE DEFEATS
THROUGH MY DOOR WALKED THE GREATEST STUDENTS IN THE WORLD
I WAS PROUD TO WELCOME THEM, ALTHOUGH SOMETIMES I WAS DISMAYED BY SOME
I WATCHED STUDENTS COME AND I WATCHED STUDENTS GO
I WILL REMAIN HERE BY THE RIVER AS MY STUDENTS TRAVEL THROUGH LIFE
I WILL ALWAYS KEEP MY MEMORIES HELD TIGHT INSIDE, BUT I WILL HAVE ROOM LEFT FOR THOSE TO COME
I AM SAYING HELLO TO THOSE WHO WILL MAKE ME WHAT I WILL BECOME
AS EAST BANK MIDDLE SCHOOL AND GOODBYE TO THOSE WHO HAD MADE ME WHAT I WAS
I WAS EAST BANK HIGH SCHOOL
